Go for it. Your friends are fools. Paris is much safer than anywhere in Louisiana. Or anywhere else in the States.

$5,500 is plenty.

Dress like a European. Dark blue and black. Neat. No ball caps. People will treat you much better.

This is not close to being true. There are absolutely very bad areas of Paris just like any big city with $10 mil people. But as a tourist there’s absolutely no reason to go close to those. There’s also a ton of pick pockets in Paris, something you almost never see in the USA. We just rob you to your face here not quietly.

Op you can go to Paris on under half your budget. Get an airbnb last minute apt since you are a single person and last minute will be cheap as they’ll strike a deal to fill up. Then airfare. Everything else is pretty cheap unless you want to eat out expensively.

The irony is that they suggested a trip to Chicago instead lol.
