Not a spider IMO

ETA:

Actually I want to change my answer. It's one of these:

LINK

quote:

Gasteracantha cancriformis is a species of orb-weaver spider (family Araneidae). It is widely distributed in the New World.

Thanks for the replies.

This was the first time I saw one, in my life and had no Idea what it was.

The OT does not disappoint. I had an answer within a few minutes.

All that I knew was that it was on a web, so I thought spider and someone would know.

Them baws are all over my azaleas in my back yard. Some of them are uncomfortably big, I don’t care if they bite or not

Always called them crab spiders. Nevee had one bite me after walking or riding into 4 million of their webs

Crab spider. Very common. I think they might be in the orb Weaver family because they usually have a criss-cross pattern in their webs.

No.... Crab Spider it is not . Spinybacked
Orbweaver is the correct common name per AMerican Arachnological Society and already ID’d with correct scientific name above.
Crab Spider refers to family Thomisidae

New World.

Have we colonized the moon or possibly Mars? If these spiders can live there, the atmosphere must be okay for humans, too.

And sleestaks

Why is the one spider that looks like a crab not called a crab spider?
