Loved Kingdom and looking forward to the next season coming in Nov I think. It's probably a little bit more accurate than Vikings. Never watched Vikings on History Channel but it's great binge watching w/o commercials on Prime.

TLK is a poor man's Vikings.

But it’s more entertaining

Vikings has hotter chicks

TLK is a little more entertaining to me, but then again it’s based on my favorite book series.
I always thought Ragnar was underutilized. He was cool, but so often seemed aloof. Like he had all these great plans in his head but kept them in his head.

Vikings by a mile. Last Kingdom is good but Vikings is clearly the all-around better show.

Yea Vikings is much better. TLK is ok, but Vikings is one of the best shows of all time imo. Except this last 1/2 season, Ivar almost single handedly makes me not want to watch. You go from one of the best lead characters of all time to one of the worst.

But what was so great about Ragnar? I liked him but since his death the pace has quickened and it’s entertaining. Ragnar himself lacked personality.

Uhtred is actually an incredibly entertaining character but the casting is not right. Still love the show but it’d be better with proper casting.

Really? Wow. I didnt post much in the Vikings threads but man I didn't know it was possible to not think of him as the best character on the show.
I dont guess I cant point out what part of his personality was the best but I thought he was a pretty deep character. It was slower moving but I thought it made for better character development.
The badass stuff Ragnar did was relatively believable. Trying to make Ivar such a badass isn't working in that regard to me. I mean he sits there in front of an army, no protection or anything like that, and just yells really loud, and that terrifies the entire army. That was the worst.

I love both as both are historical fiction. My only real complaint is making IVar a cripple in Vikings. He was historically a badass leader of the Great Army. He was called The Boneless, not the Cripple. TLK and Bernard Cornwell in his novels did IVar better.

I don’t even know what this means.

I loved Vikings early on but it has been slipping since Ragnar for me. I’ve read all of the Saxon Stories so Last Kingdom has a big advantage. Despite Uthred being miscast it has a superior plot to follow.

He was a badass leader of the Great Heathen Army with a widely cited physical disability that made him unable to walk. Hence the cripple.

It means Ragnar lacked personality. After becoming king, he acted like a puppet master and everyone adored him but he didn’t do much onscreen. He sauntered around, scheming and thinking and maybe going a little crazy. Even at the very end, he remained absolutely coy about his plan of going back to England.

I guess that’s what I’m trying to get at. The show wants Ragnar to be a deep character, and that’s fine, but I think in the process he became detached or aloof.

I’ve also read that the reason for the nickname is unknown. I find it doubtful that a man could successfully be a warlord in this era without the ability to walk or fight, but who knows.
