In December, I will be moving down to St. Croix for a year. I've never been and I don't really know much about it. I'll be down there for work and won't have a ton of time on a weekly basis, but I will have a week off at a time intermittently.

Reviews of the island seem to be mixed. Some people claim it's a dump and some people seem to really enjoy it. I've heard that it has changed a lot since last years hurricanes, anyone with some current info?

I really enjoy fishing and I want to start diving, seems like a great place to learn. Anyone have any rec's on dive shops or fishing outfits down there? Can you fish from the beach, or maybe a yak?

What else is there to do down there?

Dive shop in Fredericksted. You can learn to dive around the pier. It's supposed to be great beginner diving.

N2theBlue is the name of the dive shop.

Local place to eat is La Reine Chicken Shack. I'll post more later. SPent a week there a couple of years ago.

I know not a darn thing about the place, but if I had the task of living there, I would try to become the ultimate beach bum for a year. Chill low key shack type place on or as close as possible to the beach, and as far away as possible from others. I'd have my dive bar, where I knew everyone, and I would spend my time outside of work, tanning/fishing/swimming/boating etc. Grill my catch all the time, and drink cheap beer.

Have fun!

I lived there for a bit after college. Not knowing how old you are, I'm not sure what to tell you about the island. Something that stuck with me till now, was the first night I met a girl and at the time I didn't have a phone, I was like how will I see you again, and she laughed and said we are the same age and white you will see me everyday, and I did. Most people come and go in the span of a few days. The place is wonderful if you are the type that can enjoy the same thing everyday, otherwise islands and the limited group of people get small quick. Are you going to Frederickstead or Christenstead.

You gonna be a part of getting the refinery back up and running?

Mid 30's.

I'm pretty good with the same old routine every day, if i'm on an island. I've got no problems being a beach bum. I'll probably find a few dives I like in the area, but I really don't want to waste the opportunity and just drink every day. I'd really like to take advantage of the outdoor stuff.

I've read about diving the pier, even at night. That's pretty interesting, not sure i've got the nerve for a night dive though, seems sketchy.

Yes, I will be there to help get the refinery up and running again.

That's great about the refinery. That will bring a lot of jobs back to St. Croix. We heard rumors it was coming back when we were there a couple of years ago.

Be sure to go to the bar at the top of the rainforest and see the beer drinking pigs (non-alcoholic beer). It's hilarious.

Just came back from St Croix. Somehow I expected more from a US territory. Most areas were pretty run down, but there are pockets of ritzy places. Didn't hurt that we stayed at a multimillion dollar house near the Buccaneer but I would be hard pressed to live there for a year. Buck Island is the highlight of St Croix.

Damn, looks like I need to put my feelers out on hiring on once it gets close to operational. We have 4 operators here at my site in Houston that came from there is 2012.

Beer drinking pigs is definitely on the list.

From my understanding, this is a pretty aggressive schedule, they want to be making product as soon as possible.

Looks like they are already taking applications online, here's the link.

Limetree Bay Terminals - Jobs

I'm pretty excited about the location. But there is a ton of work to do, I don't know that I will have as much recreational time as I would like.
