"OMG MY CAMP IS FLOODING, OPEN THE GATES SO PEOPLE IN THE CITY WILL FLOOD INSTEAD OF MY CAMP!"

Explain. These levees have changed the water levels in the marsh significantly. I'm all for protecting the people in Houma but what about the ecosystem?
Also, please explain why there was ever any need to even consider closing the bubba dove yesterday. I'm not trying to get in a pissing match. Just reporting what I see on the ground (water)
That land is also lower (subsidence) and water level higher (sea level rise) than before. I'm sure there is some impact due to stopping inland surge, but you can't just not protect the many because of a few fishing camps.

I've already stated a full understanding of what has been done and the better good it serves.
I appreciate this thread and all contained herein. I have a camp south of the levee, and probably get to make 10 trips a year, and it has been a process to learn when the water may be too high to get to and/or use the camp.
As with all things, it is interesting where lines get drawn in the sand when this kind of money is invested, and who comes out on top. When and if this starts affecting those that thought they were protected, I'm sure things will change.

yes but it is simple..... the delta area will continue to subside. and until there is replenishment of material, the area will get lower and lower and water will infiltrate. I mean all of South LA is a delta. It is organic material that compacts, consolidates, and subsides. unless it is replenished, it will continue.

They now have locks in Lockport, Larose and 2 in Golden Meadow. I am not sure how much more they can flow when they close the locks all the damn time
