Video shows two men trying to sneak up on the animals in the Nakabolelwa Conservancy in Namibia.

(WARNING: Some may find the video disturbing)

How is there any skill in hunting an elephant?

I find the video disturbing because the last image seen wasn't the bottom of an elephant foot as it came down on that dude's head and squashed it like a grapefruit

Yea a real man would stand there and face off with the animal.

There's money in it.
I'm not for hunting elephants, but this was a legal hunt.

From what I can tell there is no skill involved. They just walk up and shoot them. And for what? It’s one thing to actually use skill to hunt and animal then use it for meat. But this is just walking up and shooting an animal. How is that seen as something to consider as being some sort of great feat or accomplishment?!?
And I say that as someone who’s hunted everything from squirrels to deer his whole life.

Can't watch that, elephants are awesome

I have no desire to kill an elephant, but I don’t look down on people who do it legally and pay for the hunt

I get that, but what skill is involved? You drive around, find a pack of elephants, get out and shoot it. They're so big you really can't miss it when you shoot.
I just don't understand what the thrill is.

I could never hunt an elephant, lion, etc but at this point hunting is currently the best option to protect them.
The money provides protection (man power) for large game reserves. I saw a documentary where one of the largest game reserves closed due to the previous import ban. No longer could afford park rangers and man power. Poachers moved in immediately afterwards and wiped out the rhino population.
Not a perfect system but paying to kill older animals in the herd is a form of conservation and the best system in place currently

To be fair, in India they are incredibly dangerous to the human population. Also, Africans have done more damage to the wildlife population of that continent than paying hunters have. I would never hunt an elephant, but at least an incredibly poor population is getting an economic benefit.

I do look down on them, but I recognize that their douchebaggery might be a net positive for conservation efforts
