Best E-Reader on the market?

So I ended up shattering my iPad last night and am in the market for a new e-reader. It does not have to have audio/the ability to play videos but that would be a plus. What do you guys think would be the best bang for your back e-reader? Is the paperwhite any good - I've heard good and bad things.
Thanks in advance

I have a paperwhite. Love it. It's Kindle #3 for me since I ended up breaking the first two. Been using a kindle since 2010.
I can't read for long periods of time on a traditional LCD screen. Starts to hurt my eyes after a while.

I have a Kindle Fire and like it fine. Plus I have the Kindle app on my ipad and iphone. They work fine, too.
When I got my Kindle Fire, I cheaped out and got the one with the ads. That sucked and so I went back and paid the extra $15 ransom and had the ads feature removed.
