The Sopsher Conundrum

It appears we are in a bit of a Surtain situation with the DL this year. 1 committed, and putting all of our eggs in one basket. Especially troubling since Ish will not sign until the Feb period. I understand the optics of signing Sopsher at almost any cost...but our DL depth as it stands now, is built on quantity, not necessarily quality. 1 four, and 2 three star recruits from last year's class (after Rosenthal and Hines moved to OL). Once Lawrence leaves we will have a talent deficit on the DL. We need more talented depth.
Is another SEC staff working behind the scenes to get Rodney another non-SEC P5 offer? If so, and that materializes after the Dec period, will Ish then have achieved his goal of helping his brother, and be free to sign with said SEC program?

It's going to be really bad if our 3 juniors leave and Sopsher goes elsewhere. The cupboard will be extremely bare. We thought losing Surtain would really bite us but it hasn't been as bad as we originally thought. But with our already thin defensive line it would be a disaster.

Well, I don’t think bama is going to take ish’s brother. They are extremely tight in numbers
And we’ve already offered his brother, so that’s good news

Our 3 juniors have no business leaving early. None draftable in my opinion. Always hurt

This x 1000! What has really killed depth are guys turning pro who have no business doing so. The staff has got to address this problem

totally agree! our dline recruiting has got lazy. Its like our coaches would rather try and develop lesser talent than try and out recruit other schools for the big fish. DLine is where titles are won and i'm just not seeing that with what LSU currently has

All three juniors are coming back. The only losses on defense are going to be Devin white and greedy

I don’t think Bama will offer the older Sopsher. I am saying that they are working behind-the-scenes to get Rodney an offer at a non-SEC school. Then Ish will sign with Bama, which is where he really wants to go.

And what is LSU'd backup plan for this? doesnt look like much. I thought Ed O was the dline whisper? so far not going very well. I think Chasson was the last big fish Ed o snagged. Id say shelvin to but they knew he was lazy and now that is bitting them in the butt as well. Come on ed and company!

We have to start offering some guys that we may not have ranked as high if they want in. Can not afford another Surtain/Goodrich situation.

I don't think that anybody on this team should leave early. Not 1. If you are a top 10 pick you go. PERIOD. I don't think any of our juniors are guaranteed top 10 picks.

Only 2 players on this team shoulde leave greedy and Devin. Those others better stay or LSU has a serious problem internally

How do you know this?

If I were LSU I would look elsewhere. If you have a spot left in Feb. and he wants in I might take him. But I would not give his brother a scholarship in order to get him.

I don't think so. In these days of the hard 25 scholarship number I don't like giving a 2 for 1 deal.

I haven’t heard anything about going after Juco DL who are ready when they arrive. Does anyone know of any we’re targeting?

He did get an offer
And we need defensive line depth. So I will gladly take the 2 for 1 deal to get Ish

This happens to be 0’s specialty. Very troubling if he can’t recruit top shelf DL being that this is really the only positive about having him. 1) Recruit 2) Develop DL

We need quality depth not a warm body and IMO his brother is no more than a warm body.
