Ok OTB guys. Give me your thoughts on regular rice bran vs flavored rice bran vs regular corn. I’ve just purchased one of the new “sonic” vibrating Rice Bran feeder. So trying to figure out if flavored is better than regular.

I have had the best luck with persimmon flavored bran versus plain and the other flavors. This year they just aren’t hitting it yet. Maybe it’s too hot.

What brand feeder can handle bran?

On time is making a Sonic feeder. Thought I would try it. Native Outdoors has them for $99

Drill holes around the top of the pipe and slide it over the seed thrower tie wrap or wire it in place. When it throws the bran it hits the inside of the pipe and walls straight down in a pile

Peanut butter flavored rice bran is so strange. If seen places where deer demolish it.

20 miles away they barely touch it any more than corn

I've always had luck with it early season and late season, if acorns are falling they don't touch it. This is in piney woods in CenLa. Flavor has never made much difference in my area.

Yep, I hunt in Rapides. The regular rice bran seems to work best. Flavored variety is a hog magnet!

If you have enough deer they will eat whatever you put out, mine will eat 50lbs of corn and 40 rice bran in two nights if I put it out

Using a feeder in general makes a good hunting area nothing more than a doe and yearling magnet. Rarely are you gonna see a mature buck in or around them in the daylight. Usually only if he has lost his mind on a doe.

I have tried everything on the market and overall deer prefer corn.

I'm feeding regular corn next to a popular flavored feed and they emptied my 50lb corn pipe feeder before even starting on the other feed 3 feet away.

Corn always seems to be the first choice

I mean in general they eat the regular bran quick enough. Usually a 50 lb sack last at most 2-3 nights at our place. Don't see any reason i'd want to add more flavor to it to have them eat it quicker. Just seems like a way for them to make $1 more per sack to me.

So you're literally telling the deer to meet you at Sonic?

I know it might have been due to the abnormally low temperatures last year, but we waited until after XMas to put our rice bran out and they went ape shite over it. They want the carbs. We don't throw corn because the hogs tend to hit it quicker. They hit rice bran, but it takes a little longer for them to get on it if other hunters are throwing corn.

An example of how crazy they were for rice bran last year:

I went out during one of the snow storms in southern Mississippi last year. I didn't see anything. However, while on the stand I got a text from my neighbor. Apparently, in a neighborhood right off Brightside and 2 miles from Tiger Stadium, a doe ran down the boulevard, broke through our galvanized metal fence, and started eating some extra rice bran I had in our garage (right out of the bag). I think something triggered with the deer last year due to the harsh winter and they started searching out as much carbs as possible.
