So, as many of you know, this is football season around these parts. However, for the LSU fans that love it when a former athlete from LSU goes on to have success in professional sports, and the baseball fans among us, here's a little update on two of our most amazing former baseball studs, recruited and signed by Coach Paul Mainieri
Alex Bregman, 3B, Houston Astros (All-Star, All-Star Game MVP)
Below are his stats through 9/13 with his AL ranking in parentheses.
Games: 143
At-Bats: 547 (11th)
Hits: 162 (8th)
Batting Avg: .296 (11th)
On-Base Pct: .398 (4th)
Slugging Pct: .556 (5th)
Runs: 100 (4th)
Doubles: 50 (Leads MLB)
Home Runs: 30 (8th)
RBIs: 100 (3rd)
SB: 10 (17th)
BB: 85 (4th)
Keep in mind that this is only the 22nd time in MLB history that a player has put up 100 Runs, 100 RBIs, 50 Doubles, and 30 Home Runs. It hasn't been done since Matt Holiday and David Ortiz did it in 2007.
Now, for some pitching stuff...
Aaron Nola, RHP, Philadelphia Phillies (All-Star)
Here are his stats through 9/13 with the NL Rankings in parentheses.
Games Started: 30 (2nd)
Record: 16-5 (2nd in Wins)
ERA: 2.42 (3rd)
WHIP: 0.971 (3rd)
Innings Pitched: 193.2 (3rd)
Hits: 137 (7th)
Hits/9: 6.4 (4th)
Runs: 53 (2nd)
Earned Runs: 52 (4th)
Home Runs: 15 (3rd)
HR/9: 0.7 (4th)
Strikeouts: 201 (4th)
K/9: 9.3 (8th)
Walks: 51 (13th)
BB/9: 2.4 (8th)
K-BB Ratio: 3.94 (6th)

Paul couldn’t even win a title with these two on his team?

Missed opportunity for sure.

Maybe if Bregman wouldn't have made an incredibly costly error in a game where Nola threw a gem and got no run support.
Nola's only loss of the season.

FWIW Bregs is probably going to get 5th in MVP behind Mookie, Trout, Jose Ramirez, and JD Martinez. Which is still damn impressive. Has been such a joy to watch the last few months

5th? Nah man, he’s going to win it or finish 2nd. Look at his stats and the fact that his team is winning
Don’t forget that he took over the Astros for a month when Correa, Altuve, and Springer were all out. He stepped up when they needed him and he also has like 3 walk offs this year

Bregs is the man. Love that he’s playing for my Astros.

MLB hates LSU.

Bregs is a player that kids growing up should be watching and learning how to play baseball. Simple approach at the plate. No crazy batting stance or weird hand movement or placement pre load. Plays great defense at a position he had to learn to play at the highest level in the sport. He also runs the bases very well which is a very underrated thing to do.
