Elon Musk's Neuralink, interface brain / CPU, "superhuman cognitive ability"

Something that got lost in the Elon Musk Rogan interview (because he took one hit of a spliff) was Rogan asking Elon about Neuralink, and Elon mentions he basically had a breakthrough and would be announcing a huge milestone that "is better than anyone thought possible" in the coming months.

"I think we'll have something interesting to announce in a few months ... that's better than anyone thinks is possible," the Tesla CEO said on "Joe Rogan Experience." "Best case scenario, we effectively merge with AI."
Musk, whose enterprises include a company called Neuralink, says his new technology will be able to seamlessly combine humans with computers, giving us a shot at becoming "symbiotic" with artificial intelligence. Musk argued that since we're already practically attached to our phones, we're already cyborgs.
We're just not as smart as we could be because the data link between the information we can get from our phones to our brains isn't as fast as it could be.

"It will enable anyone who wants to have superhuman cognition," Musk said. "Anyone who wants." Rogan asked how much different these cyborg humans would be than regular humans, and how radically improved they might be. "How much smarter are you with a phone or computer or without? You're vastly smarter, actually," Musk said. "You can answer any question pretty much instantly. You can remember flawlessly. Your phone can remember videos [and] pictures perfectly. Your phone is already an extension of you. You're already a cyborg. Most people don't realize you're already a cyborg. It's just that the data rate ... it's slow, very slow. It's like a tiny straw of information flow between your biological self and your digital self. We need to make that tiny straw like a giant river, a huge, high-bandwidth interface."

The human race will then become extinct like the dinosaurs

i found this fascinating. Imagine being able to access google instantly without having to use your thumbs. just a thought and it's googled

I've been wondering that if this interface happens, I wonder if we are able to tap into long term memory, and go back and "watch" stuff that happened in our past and relive memories.
I've been wondering if that was possible for a long time, hearing Musk talk about this makes me think it's not too far off.

Him talking about Neuralink was the biggest takeaway I had from the podcast. I will be very interested in learning more. If it works, Tesla stock at what ~$250 right now will be a huge bargain. I'll be on the wait and see approach though.

There is a Black Mirror Episode about this
And frick that

When one scam doesn’t work, announce another. Look around. Do the majority W2 employees sitting near you look like they are interested in learning or challenging problem solving? When’s lunch?

It’s so crazy to me that everyone jumped on that half-second, single-hit, nothing moment and completely ignored everything he talked about in the extensive interview.
I could see the technology having major implications both positive and negative.

anyone who can afford it, to have superhuman cognition
Fixed his quote.
How much that cyborg tech gonna cost? If only the super rich can afford it.... That's bad, m'kay.

Well I believe his point later on was that anyone who utilizes the technology will instantly enable himself or herself to achieve and earn more than a normal person, so the cost of it would be inconsequential. But I think that his premise is severely flawed, because he assumes that the technology will enhance all people to that point from any baseline of intelligence, of which I’m not so sure.

I just finished the entire podcast. It was a great interview and I was fascinated the entire time, I could have listened to another 3 hours of it.
It shows you how much humanity and especially the business word and cabal tries to keep us down, that everyone hyperfocused on his smoking a single hit and drummed that up over everything he was discussing. "ELON MUSK IS OUT OF CONTROL" The is one of the most important people on the earth right now (he can be compared to a modern day Nikola Tesla IMO, there's a reason he used his name) when you talk about humanity's future and what he is doing to make it better and change the world. Yet he takes one hit of a tobacco/cannibis joint in a legal state and those dominated the headlines.

I listened to that podcast and was fascinated by some of the thoughts that Elon has. I know they aren't original, or the first time they have been though of. The probability of this life being a simulation was a probably the most interesting thing to me. Then this tidbit about humans merging with electronics and all humans being a part of a collective in that space. Also, the discussion about how we kind of already are merged with electronics through social media.
Eta: It also made me think of the GOAT scifi movie Johnny Mnemonic.

It opens up the bandwidth between us and machines, the connection that is already there (phones, computers)
It's a kin to the slowest dial-up back in the day (800 baud modem that would take hours to load an entire webpage) to high-speed fiber that we have today streaming HD video in real time. Imagine that leap and how much it changed our lives, the connection speed between computers and humans.
Now take high-speed fiber as an example and multiply that speed times millions. Us basically accessing computers in real time with zero input lag sending and receiving.
This will be a breakthrough and change the path humanity is taking drastically.

Yeah, I get that, and I agree.
I was more referring to the initial individual cost of the tech and Musk’s premise that every individual will instantly be able to afford it due to a future payoff. I think just like any tech there will be an affordability lag that can’t be compensated for by the promise of a future earning capability that may or may not pan out.
