Little known video game facts

Maybe everyone else on the planet knew this, but I found this out today. Somehow got on a "what are they doing now" google search for celebrities and was looking up David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry. According to Perry's wiki page, he's a big fan of the Fallout series. In 2009 he appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show and gave her a copy of Fallout 3. This prompted Bethesda and Obsidian to cast him for a role in New Vegas. I look that up, and holy crap, he was Benny.

Me and my wife are big Friends fans, so that was a fun little bit of trivia for me.
quote:
"I played this video game so often that I injured my hand so severely that I had to go to a hand doctor and get injections in my hand because I love this video game so much," Perry told Ellen at the time. "The game is called Fallout 3. I'm not affiliated with this game at all, I just love it. But I signed it, so it looks like I created it."

The Fallout series has a lot of big name voice actors. Ron Perlman does the war never changes narration. Liam Neeson is the father in Fallout 3. Felicia Day is Cas in NV.

Maybe more well known than I know. But Super Mario 2 was not actually a Mario game.
It was another Nintendo game re-skinned because the actual Mario 2 was thought to be too hard for Americans.

it's interesting because it is a great game and ended up better than super mario 2 would have been anyway, which was just mario "the lost levels" just super mario bros 1 with harder levels, i think reskinning the game to mario 2 put mario in a better direction overall.
I'm not sure you get mario 3 if you dont have that mario 2 history

When I think back on it, comparing 2 to the rest of the series, it's such a weird installment. But I played the crap out of it.
I was all about Peach and her floating jump.

Mario 2 "NA version" released in the same month as Mario 3 in Japan.

I had "super Mario all stars" which contained the lost levels and yeah, they were pretty hard
super Mario 2 was strange yet enjoyable

I love when video games do this.
Kingdom Hearts, aside from being a great series, also had a star studded voice cast.
Haley Joel Osment , Jesse McCartney, Willa Holland, Hayden Panettiere, Ariel Winter, Leonard Nimoy, Billy Zane, Brittany Snow, Christopher Lee and Mark Hammill to name a few.

Some of these are well known, others aren't:
Pac-Man's original name was Puck-Man, since he looked like a hockey puck, but it was changed because they knew the inevitable liberties that would be taken with the name Puck-Man.
The modern Grand Theft Auto series as we know it today has its roots in an obscure N64 game called Body Harvest.
Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III on the SNES are actually Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI. They didn't port over II, III, and V to the US so they just numbered them differently to not confuse people into wondering where the others went.
The four "Final Fantasy" games released for the original GameBoy weren't even FInal Fantasy games at all.
Final Fantasy Adventure was actually the first game in the Seiken Densetsu series. Secret of Mana was the sequel people are familiar with.
Final Fantasy Legend I, II, and III were actually the first three games in the SaGa franchise.
They were changed to have Final Fantasy in their respective titles for marketing reasons. Western audiences knew the FF brand.

Donkey Kong was originally called Monkey Kong in Japan but the translator messed up and it became Donkey Kong in America.

The death screams of the bad guys in the original Golden Axe are digitized from screams used in the films First Blood and Conan The Barbarian.
If you bought Shenmue 2 on Xbox, you'll remember the Shenmue Movie DVD that came with it, containing all the major cut-scenes from the first game. Well, in Japan, this was actually shown in some cinemas, such was the popularity of Yu Suzuki's epic series.
It's only humanly possible to press a button on a controller 16 times per second. This record was set by Toshuyuki Takahashi, a Japanese gamer.
Starcraft is the first computer game to have ever physically made it into space. It was sent aboard Shuttle mission STS-96 on May 27, 1999 by Mission Specialist Daniel T. Barry , who is also a Starcraft fan.

Lol I knew i’d Forget someone!
I honestly don’t know who else they had, probably a few other big names.
I am hopeful they at least get Tom Hanks’ brother to do Woody in KH3.

This is pretty common but I figured I'd mention it. The clouds and the bushes in Super Mario Brothers are the same, but recolored.
And there is a secret room in Zelda: A Link to the Past called the "Chris Houlihan Room" which is where the player is sent to as a crash prevention measure when the game has lost track of what room the player is entering. The room was named after a Nintendo Power reader who won a contest in a 1990 issue of the magazine.

Mario’s pants are made of denim, denim, denim.
The joke probably only works if you hear it spoken.

In Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, a player can move approximately 1.4 times faster than normal if you strafe while running forwards AKA Speed Strafing.
