With the new redshirt rule, anyone think we try to save Myles unless an injury forces us to play him? Or, do we waste him on clean up roles?
What would U do ???

Convincing a kid to take a redshirt when he's perfectly healthy and played the year before is a tough sell.

It's probably ideal for the program, but unlikely.

Might be good to have him get some reps in garbage time against cupcakes in case Burrow should get nicked.

You won't get through a football season without having to play your backup WB. We have no other serviceable Qb on the roster. I will be surprised if they can keep his RS.

ETA: If McMillon or Narcisse stay, I'd have given this a much better chance of happening.

Remember, they can play in 4 games and still redshirt.

We don't even need Myles Brennan if Burrow plays next season. Just recruit a guy for 2019, let him sit a year, then start in 2020.

I can see both sides of this argument. Tough call.

I would utilize the new redshirt rule. You just never know. The good thing about his situation is he still already has game experience and can add four more games this season.

Also, I’m awful at spelling, but please try to remember it’s Myles with a y. I do not like correcting anyone whatsoever, but when it’s players names I like to see us try and get that right.

It's certainly an interesting new rule. It essentially allows a backup dude to get some PT throughout the year and still redshirt. I think that's great for college football. The interesting part - when do you give him playing time?

For example, if we let Brennan play against SELU, Tech, Rice, and some SEC team, and Burrow gets hurt in the Bama game. Brennan would lose his redshirt because he'll have to play the year out. If you hold off and let Brennan play the last four games, then you can still redshirt him. If that's all correct by the rule.

Sounds like the safe thing to do is not let him play until game 9. Do ya'll agree? It's kinda tricky, imo.

It's not even really about him getting hurt. What if Burrow's helmet gets knocked off in a crucial spot in any SEC game, and he has to come out for a play? If the actual plan is to redshirt him, there can't be any mop up time for Brennan until the last 4 games of the season.

I guarantee he's already bought in to the idea. It's ideal, but may not be possible. But with the new rule, it's a great idea.

I definitely think he needs reps as soon as it's feasible, just in case Burrow has to go out at some point. Don't need to go up against an Auburn or Georgia without having faced any live fire in this offense with this group of players.
