TDGB TOTD: What's the point of Twitch subscriptions if you can watch the content for free?

I know it helps the streamer somewhat, but it seems like they make more in donations than they would with subscriptions

They make they most money with bits direct donations and patreon. If you really want to support a streamer that's the way to go because twitch gets a cut on the subscription

so what's the point of subscriptions? if twitch wanted to make more money, they could make the big time streamers available only by subscription. so, if you wanted to watch ninja's stream or doc's stream, you'd have to pay for it.
but then, those streamers could go to a free platform like youtube or facebook until they followed suit.

That's a good way for them to get zero traffic.

Twitch auto-renews non-prime subs unless you cancel it.
So some guy may sub and donate 10 bucks, but he'll likely forget to cancel his sub or just keep paying it.
It's why most streamers would rather a sub then a dono

it doesnt work. if people HAD to pay to watch ninja they'd just watch Lupo or Tim or someone else instead. Nerdist/Geek and Sundry found that out the hard way when they were bought out and put on a paid only service.

How do you function day to day? Do you have a helper or something? You're the OweO of the gaming board.

Is that the best you can do? I toss one up for you to knock out and that’s the best insult you can muster up? You’re getting slow in your old age.

A subscription business model is a great business model, especially in today's internet market. Twitch does need their cut. You are using their service to promote yourself. Go try to stream on a lesser known site and you will get lesser exposure/quality. It is a partnership and it is vital for both parties.
