Gun trade help 30/30 to shotgun

I have never traded nor sold a gun before. I have a Marlin/Glenfield 30/30 from the 80s. It never gets used and just sits in a closet. I have a 12 year old and would like to get him a basic, tool-like 20 gauge auto. What can I expect?

Could probably trade one for one at a gun store or pawn shop.

Might be able to trade it straight up for a BPS. Though it would probably be easier to trade or for an 870. I would prefer a BPS.
