It’s gonna bite them in the arse when it decides a game on a crucial 3rd down.

Yeah....especially late in the season where a playoff spot is up for grabs. Even worse...can you imagine if it happened in a playoff game?

I just saw a normal tackle called for a penalty in this Colts Ravens game. If this is what it's going to be like I'll stick to watching my football on Saturdays.

There’s already been literally dozens of games decided on ticky tacky PI or QB hits late in the game.

It won’t be called nearly as often during the season

Isn’t “spearing” already illegal? This rule was dumb from the start. Absolutely no way to make a full speed head on tackle without your head at least appearing to be led with.

NFL to make updated teaching video on new helmet-contact rule.

quote:

Amid confusion and angst about the new helmet-contact rule, the NFL is having daily dialogue about the application in preseason games, league sources told ESPN. The league will also assemble an updated video tutorial that will be distributed to game officials, coaches and players once the final preseason games are played and in time for teams preparing for their regular-season openers, according to sources.

Doesn't that seem a little to late? They should have made the video prior to camps starting.

I don't understand why the NFL just doesn't require players to sign a shite ton of waivers saying they accept the risk of all injuries, including head injuries and CTE, and just play the way they always have.

You don't like it? Don't play.

I'm waiting for a player to launch feet first to make a tackle. Not sure but that seems to be within the rules.

they don't hit or tackle as much in Camp now either.

one hand, its like the league is trying to protect itself and the players.

and on the other, it almost seems like a subtle jab at the current collective bargaining agreement.

I know these are pro players but anyone can be exposed with less reps. If they are limited in practice in fine tuning their craft, how will it translate onto the field?

and lets face, some officiating crews are just plain flag happy.

also last year in the Thursday Night games if you played a drinking game for the amount of flags thrown, you'd be a no show at work the next day.

Is it possible to decline the penalty? What if all the coaches decided as a group to decline those penalties?

The NFL, who still can’t determine what exactly is a catch, decides to blow-up tackling rules and norms with subjective criteria.

It is almost like they are trying kill their own ratings. Maybe a negotiation ploy for the new CBA?

They met today and sounds like they'll be tweaking the rules. Relax, people.

I haven't bought the NFL's bullshite ever since the Bounty Gate thing.

"hundreds of pages of evidence" I believe they claimed to have had.

what about the made up Mickey Loomis wire-taping allegation that never had any substance to it? It was just ESPN fanning it's farts into the sports world.

You Bet.
