Times change

I was spritting an apartment from a guy from Milwaukee back in the 70's and his friends used to all come visit with him.

They brought their own beer, cheese, and sausage and I got the impression it was really white back then from the way they talked about non white people. Not saying they were full on Archie Bunker types, but not real far from it.

Lived in Milwaukee for 5 years (in the city). I’m well aware of the demographics. I actually figured it was closer to 50% Black

I laughed at that part.. I mean, of all the times it could have happened, it happened when someone was claiming he was stealing the car..

If you can't see that the president has created an environment that's made it more acceptable to be assholes to brown people you really aren't paying attention.

Sheesh.. All of this identity politics, race baiting BS started under Obama, the talking point just continued into the past election. Boarder security was something Obama/Hillary campaigned on in 2008, and all of a sudden it's racist. It's like some people live in a bubble and just regurgitate whatever the media says. It's evident you haven't paid attention very long, or you're just in denial.

Campaigning on border security and pointing out the worst segments of a race even though it's the minority to get your point across are two completely different things.

Calling bullshite, the cops would have killed the black guy, planted guns and drugs on him, then asked questions.

At least that’s what we’re told cops do now days

When?

How many of the old breweries are left?

Sad days indeed when beer production facilities close down.

People, in general, especially when it comes to politics, do not see things objectively.

He is the president because he created a certain environment. Steve Bannon, I think it was.. Towards the end of the campaign, he was only one of the few people within Trump's campaign who thought he had a legit shot to win. From what I read, he preached to Trump that he had to jump on issues that people are passionate about.. And gets those groups of people so worked up that they actually get out and go vote on election day.

In a presidential election, both sides have their base votes. As soon both parties have their candidate.. From that point on it is all about targeting the people in the middle and finding ways to get the people, who don't vote on a regular basis, out to the polls.

The approach Trump took was a good strategy, but I think you have to be realistic and see that his methods clearly created a divide throughout the country.

I left about 15 years ago.

Milwaukee is better now though. When I was there the only interesting/fun areas were parts of downtown and the eastside along the lake.

Now downtown is more active and some old industrial areas like the 3rd ward have been repurposed and transformed into some cool urban neighborhoods.

I’d like living there more now than when I actually did.

He didn't create the environment. He benefited from it.

He wouldn't have been elected or even nominated in 2000. An outsider/insurgent candidacy is viable only when both parties lose their credibility. A Don Rickles act is effective only when the economic and social climate are negative for most voters.
