A new grand jury report says that internal documents from six Catholic dioceses in Pennsylvania show that more than 300 "predator priests" have been credibly accused of sexually abusing more than 1,000 child victims.
"We believe that the real number of children whose records were lost, or who were afraid ever to come forward is in the thousands," the grand jury report says.
The lengthy report, released Tuesday afternoon, investigates clergy sexual abuse in six dioceses dating back to 1947. Pennsylvania's two other dioceses, Philadelphia and Altoona-Johnstown, were the subjects of earlier grand jury reports, which found similarly damaging information about clergy and bishops in those dioceses.

"There have been other reports about child sex abuse within the Catholic Church. But never on this scale," the grand jurors wrote in Tuesday's report.
"For many of us, those earlier stories happened someplace else, someplace away. Now we know the truth: it happened everywhere."

I remember the good ol' days when we were able to just pretend this stuff didn't happen.

Nothing good about pretending that stuff didn't happen or ignoring it or covering it up... The Catholic Church has been corrupt for a very long time...

You'd never know it from this board. Half the words typed on here are pearl clutching and hand wringing about how much "worse" things have gotten.

This is a plot by the devil himself. The fact that such evil exists within Catholicism proves once and for all that the Catholic Church is the one, true Church of the Son of God. The Catholic Church is the greatest threat to Satan and therefore he attacks it more often than he does the heretics of Protestantism. For why would he attack a group of people who are already slated to join him in Hades?

Things have gotten much worse, especially what society considers acceptable now as compared to then...

As Ben Shapiro says, child molesters should be castrated or killed. Doesn't matter what organization they belong to.

No one pretends that no bad things happened in the past.

You, however, have an obsession with pretending that everything in the past was horrible and everything is great now.

May be, but humans are just as capable of sinning on our own without the Devil's influence.

While not something to brag about, Protestant churches have seen their own share of sexual immorality. Not sure I'd hang my frock on sin being an evidence of the true Church.

Actually the Gospel is the greatest threat to Satan.

You sure about that? There are a lot of Protestants and Protestant churches that have been attacked by sin over the centuries.

Bad things happen to bad/wicked people, too. It's not always the work of Satan.

This is his fabricated axe that he likes to grind.

I made a thread a while ago about how Johnny Carson was a much better and more enjoyable late night tv host than the guys we have today and a nice discussion about Johnny Carson ensued.

Then this guy busts in and suddenly begins waxing on about church bombings and the murdering of young children. Tried to tell him we were talking about how we liked and missed Johnny Carson but it did no good.

He sees everything in the world through a prism of race and time. It’s sad, really.

The Catholic Church is sick. The Pope is sick, too. Shut it down.

No, society did not and had it gotten out of the Catholic Church quicker, then it would have been dealt with a hell of a lot quicker...

Nope. There's always plenty of bad. It's just that the past was worse than now.
