Home theater living room setup

I'm looking into doing an entry level system in my living room. I have a Yamaha RX-A730 that I'll be driving it with, at least until I get an HDR TV in which case I'll need to upgrade. I'm going for around 90% HT/10% Music.
After all my research, I've limited my search down to the HTD level 3 towers w/center or the Emotiva Airmotiv T2 towers w/center. I'll be doing some cheaper in ceiling speakers for surround, and pairing it all with an HSU VTF-2 MK5 sub. I'm working with an open floorplan, so I'm sure I'll need an additional sub, but that'll need to come later.
I know bookshelves are a better buy, but aethetically, I prefer towers and so would my wife. I also think towers would probably help fill the space in my open floorplan, as well as being generally more stable with my toddler running around.
Does anyone have experience with these 2 sets of speakers and if so can you tell me which you prefer and why? Or which might be better for the money?

You may also consider ELAC or SVS...good value gear.

Both of those were in the initial running, but I ruled out the Elacs because they are more geared for a music listening setup. I actually haven't entirely ruled out the svs prime's, if someone can make a case for them... but from what I've read is they are a little over priced comparatively speaking. Though I do like them the best aesthetically in this price range.

I agree with the towers. I have two towers in the front, a center channel on a shelf under the tv, and two half moon surrounds on the wall behind the couch, with the sub off to the left. All Klipsch. Powered by a Yamaha RX-A2000. Very sweet sound field.

A speaker is not geared toward music or theater. A good speaker is designed to have a flat frequency response over a broad bandwidth no matter what that sound is.
Sound from a movie is no different than sound from a CD player...a recording is a recording.

Just pulled the trigger on a pair of Dynaudio Special Forty. Psyched.

Just saw the ad for them in the latest issue of Stereophile that hit my door yesterday.

I think you will be good with that set up. I was going to do HTD level 3 but the Andrew Jones pioneers I got were a super buy.
I'll eventually upgrade to something like KEF but they are doing well right now.

You're trippin'. Maybe you should increase your price range, because speakers can be the most beautiful thing in your house. I can't afford for them to be, but you can still find ones with high WAF...or in your case Neauxla Acceptance Factor.

IOW, you paid zero attention to proper speaker placement.

The girlfriends always prefer to let them on the couch/bed. That is NOT happening!
My plasma died. It has been upgraded since that pic to 70"
