I bought the Xi5 for xmas 2016 for my bay boat. it has been flawless and not one problem since i got it. Before 2016 the MK spot lock was not as good as the anchor mode on the MG. Around the end of 2016 MK made changes to their's to make spot lock better but i'm still not sure if it's as good as the MG. I do like the auto deploy of the MK if it's not alot of problems with it.

I have the Ulterra and vote against it. Now I would vote for the regular Minn Kota riptide as many friends have them with zero problems. My experience sucks, first time out acted weird, brought in and waited months for a "new board". Worked ok but was 25 miles offshore a couple weeks ago with my sons and brother and it acted up and gave me the flashing red light, would not stow. So luckily it was calm and I had another man and large teenager to help me go through the manual stow process. I will probably never use again because if I were by myself or younger son I could not have gotten it stowed. I felt like pulling the pin and dropping it right there at the rig. Also call MinnKota and they act surprised you are having trouble, ask the certified tech and he says the Minn Kota guys know all about the problems.

More people out there have had issues with auto deploy than have not from what I've seen.

I have had an xi5 for 2 years. Zero problems. Holds spot lock great and has good battery life. It also links to a lowrance or simrad just like the MK and the hummingbird.

Yeah my buddy has the ulterra and it has already started to mess up.

I have the terrova and haven’t had an issue with it yet.

Just replaced my xi5 with an ultrex. The ultrex is a game changer, cable steer, autopilot and spotlock. My xi5 would randomly take off running wide open and constantly would go crazy in anchor mode.

Ditto. And it sucked balls to deploy and stow.

Can you also operate it with the remote control when needed?

ETA - you can add a foot pedal on the Ulterra's, correct?

I have an Ulterra and would recommend it. That said, I had to replace the first one I bought after like a week. That was when they were first released though, and my boat dealer buddy has told me they're having fewer issues with the newer ones.

I personally wouldn't buy a Motorguide of any model because I had a terrible experience with the structural durability of an older hand controlled model on my last boat after replacing a Minn Kota that was on there for 10 years prior. Never had durability issues with Minn Kotas.

The real game changer about the Ulterra is the power trim. If you are a sight fisherman, not having to get off of the casting platform to adjust the trolling motor height, or not having to adjust the trolling motor height every time the weight shifts in the boat, is invaluable. If it broke today out of warranty, I'd go buy a new one tomorrow. I've never had any auto stow/deploy problems with mine.

Yes you can control with remote. I use the remote for slow trolling Crappie and foot control when fishing timber.

I have had my Ultrex for about 6 months now and I am completely satisfied with it. Easy steering even when running wide open. Spot lock only lets boat rift at most 5-6 feet before adjusting but most times quicker than that. Lift assist makes it easy to put in and out of the water. Its quiet. I also like the gradual speed acceleration. It keeps me from damn near throwing myself out the boat when u hit the button and forget the speed was on high Some buddies of mine get the gradual speed programed off. They prefer it that way so when you fishing in grass it chops through it faster. Once you get familiar with the Ultrex it is a very nice trolling motor.

Sounds like a really good motor... I just don't like that they don't make it in a Saltwater version.

I don't think I have ever seen a saltwater boat with a foot control.

You can buy a foot control that plugs in to it. It's pretty nice.
