I've been there and Johannesburg is extremely dangerous. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza by the airport and the British Airways crew got robbed in the freaking parking lot when they went out to smoke.

We were working with South African Airways and went to our host's house for a braai (cookout) and he had guard dogs, a wall with concertina wire and made us wait in the car until the dogs circled the compound and sat at the door - the all clear signal. Nice as hell guy but that was a little scary. All the women were basically prey. Sad, because it has unbelievable natural beauty.
