My boy is about to turn 5 and I think it’s a good time to get him a BB gun. The Mrs was not raised around guns and thinks 5 is too young. What say you OB?

Inb4 he’ll shoot his eye out
Maybe get it and don’t give him bb’s without supervision until 6 mos of demonstrating safe handling

Young Chowder got his 1st Daisy Redrider on his 5th bday. It gave me an opportunity to teach him gun safety. Its never too soon to share the tradition.

I was seven when I got my Red Ryder BB gun.
Five might be a little young, but that shouldn't stop you from getting the bb gun and start teaching him the safety use of a firearm.

My son got a T/C hotshot (crack barrel) .22 when he was three. He’s 12 now and has been able to take it out in the woods by himself since he was 11.

My son is 7 right now. But ever since he's been coming to the camp, he's been using an old broken BB gun that doesn't shoot. It has BB's in it. He thinks it shoots but it doesn't. It's really helped us teach him gun safety and muzzle control without worrying. I may get him one that works this yr.

I got a Daisy red rider when I was 4 or 5. I still have it. I don't think my dad let me loose with it alone until I was 7 or so.

5years old is ok. Get him one so you can teach him gun safety and respect for fund. Don't let him shoot unsupervised for a year or so.

Very similar for me. When I first got it, the only time I was allowed to use it when we had set up targets and we were shooting together. He turned me loose with it to "Hunt" critters probably a year or so later.

Dad bought me a Benjamin air rifle when I was 7 or 8 once I got bored with the BB gun. He got me a New England Firearms single shot 410 when I was 10 or so. I still have all of them.
My wife is a country girl and was raised around guns so she doesn't mind having a house full of them

Gave my little one a red rider for his 4th birthday ... with the caveat that it was only to be used with parental supervision.
Rather start safety training at a young age.

I have two girls and they both started learning with a red Ryder at 5. Popped the leftover balloons from their birthday party.

My daughter got her first savage rascal .22 at the age of 7. This meant that my son was 5. Both were excellent marksman with it. Neither get to shoot it without supervision. My son and I just went to the range yesterday. He is 9 now. He shot my S&W shield .40 cal for the first time and handled it well. IMO 5 is already too late for a BB gun.

I was 5. All my friends we all bad B.B. gun wars. It was a strict 2 pump rule and hurt like a mofo. Good times

I got my first BB gun at 6, IIRC. Got a pellet gun at around 8. Got my 4-10 around 11.
We lived out in the middle of nowhere the, so Dad let’s us run wild with the B.B. guns (all the kids around had them). He was a lot more strict with the pellet guns, because we could do some serious damage. The 4-10stayed locked up until I was 13, but in my 8th grade year I had permission to turn two of the beagles loose when I got off the bus and rabbit hunt until he got home by myself.
