Equal parts O, equal parts leaders such as Devin White.

O may lack in some areas but it will never be in motivation and toughness. This team will fight in every game this year. Look what they did after Bama last year. Destroyed Arkansas, Tennessee and Aggy. That wasn't always the case the last few years with Les.

One of the best offseason jobs seemed like when Les ran them to death in 2011 to get ready for Oregon. We really wore out a lot of teams that year.

It wasn't the case with O. If the team lays down at the beginning of the season it's not any better.

I'm pretty skeptical about the premise for this argument.
The "entitlement culture" is difficult to described, much less prove and seems to be pointed at a few people. I have not doubt that our current squad has people who feel they are entitled to start. Some are indeed, "entitled"
As far this team putting in more work and conditioning effort than during the Miles era, you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't know of any evidence for that, either.

How can you be so sure? This wasn't the case in every game last year?

Of course, this is an outsiders perspective so it would be interesting if someone close to the program could chime in on this.

It seemed like over the past 3 seasons, starting with the 2014 recruiting class, that there was an entitlement culture. Some players, not all, assumed that they could show up and win starting spots without the work. Even our best players would have nfl caliber sophmore seasons and then just coast their junior year, skip spring, bowls games etc... some players leaving early that had no business doing so... just seemed like “all about me”... again not everyone, but some crucial players. Sadly it appeared like we would get physically dominated at times by lesser talent i.e. troy d-line vs our o-line.

Now that the bulk of the 2014 class has moved on, we hear players talk about how much work they’ve been putting in. The “want” to win is filtering back in slowly. Summer workouts being tough, moffit saying that we’re having the highest team conditioning pass rates of his career. Tons of videos coming out players maxing out, taking pride in their accomplishments. (I know those vids come out every year but it seems like a ton are coming out now)

This video basically sums up what I mean.

You can tell they really do want it this time. It’s a team mentality. I think it has to do with great leadership. Young guys looking up to devin white or rashard lawrence vs say... arden key.

I’ll admit. I’m getting a little excited now.

I've posted this numerous times. The entire program (things people don't always see) went through drastic changes the last few years for the better. And, I'm on record as saying the program (in its entirety), has NEVER been run better. If people will just open their eyes a little, they will see it.

For this reason, and this reason only, I am willing to give O a little leeway. Culture change was needed BADLY at LSU, and not just with the QB position. But this doesn't happen overnight.

I truly believe he is on the right path.

I wonder if O learned his lesson about “going easy” during practice. I think he continued going easy during the 2017 offseason which clearly ended up being a mistake. Now it’s: hard as hell offseason, lite practice during regular season.

When you already have significant depth problems, you can't come in and run everyone off. A transition period was needed. As depth gets better, O can afford to implement things in the way he wants.

I'm continually amazed at how people think you can just come in, and instantaneously do ALL the things you want. It just doesn't work that way. It takes time and it comes in pieces.

Yes, you can work a little faster in basketball because you are dealing with a roster of 15 guys. Football is a much, much bigger ship that generally takes more time to turn.

This NOW mentality is just absurd. People need to go look at all the coaches LSU has had and look at their records.

I agree a culture change was needed. The program had become stale and stagnant in Les' last years. I think the offensive scheme lead to a malaise. It's hard for the team to get excited and motivated doing the same tired old game plan week after week, season after season.
I would say that the program was being run best in the Saban years. It had vision, discipline and definition. Saban was (is) the master of details: preparation, planning, execution. Totally focused. I question whether O has that focus and attention to detail.

Lol does it help to hire and fire the OC in year 1?

Then hire an OC who hasn’t been a full time OC this century and has NEVER run the USC offense O claims he wants to run?

That’s not moving forward. It’s moving backward.

And the only cure was more cowbell.

Just kidding, it was a guy who is a career DL coach and went 10-25 at ole miss.

There are no shortage of examples proving this wrong.

In fact, since 2000, every title but two has been won by a coach in his second, third or fourth year with his team, wth Saban being the one who breaks the rule because of course he is.

Nice. Even Miles won a championship in his 3rd season.

O actually had a leg up any time you add up his years because he took over an interim gig quickly and immediately started getting his guys in. This is O’s second full season though. Next year would be his third plus an interim HC season, so I expect a championship contender within these next two years or else we need to move on.

I will say I like what’s he doing currently in recruiting IF it holds up. I have to give him that.

Sounds pretty normal. Your team is either competing in year 3-4 or you’re fired.
