after making a high profile trade that people loved the return on

quote:

If the New York Mets are just going to trade their most valuable major league assets for salary relief, rather than to try to improve the club, then it's time for MLB to step in and force the Wilpons to sell the team, just as the league did with Frank McCourt and the Dodgers. Trading Jeurys Familia for two fringe-at-best prospects is not how any team, regardless of payroll level, should operate in this environment. For a franchise that operates in the largest market in the league to do this -- and do so 10 days before the trade deadline rather than waiting for someone to offer a legitimate return -- is embarrassing for the Mets and for Major League Baseball as a whole.

they welcomed back cespedes after months on the DL, and well...

LINK

quote:

Yoenis Cespedes finally returned Friday night after missing more than nine weeks and came back with a bang, but how long will he last?

After going 2-for-4 with a homer which hit off the left foul pole in the Mets’ 7-5 win over the Yankees, Cespedes revealed that all the leg injuries he’s dealt with in recent years are because of calcification in both of his heels, and the only way to fix it is to have surgery which he says has an eight-to-10 month recovery. He’s not sure if he’ll have surgery, and he’s not even sure if he can make it through the season.

so cespedes spends months on the DL, finally comes back, and then drops a bomb on everyone that he might need season ending surgery

and if that wasnt enough, the whipped cream and cherry on top of this marvelous sunday of a weekend that the mets had.....syndergaard got an infection after doing charity work over the all star break

quote:

Tim Britton ? @TimBritton
Syndergaard is going on the 10-day DL with hand, foot and mouth disease. Seriously.

Noah Syndergaard is going on the DL with hand, foot & mouth disease. Possible he picked it up working at a kids camp over the all-star break. Perhaps why he had diminished velocity and was tired on Friday. Assistant GM John Ricco said they expect it perhaps to be just one start.

When I heard this on the radio, I had a blank stare for a moment.

They are claiming only one start. Who wants to touch the ball when he is loosening up?

You can get it by touching something the infected person touched.

Syndergaard only misses one start. Comes back and immediately gives the rest of the team hand, foot, and mouth disease. Tebow gets called up as a replacement.

This would be the most Mets thing ever.

Burn this damn franchise to the ground. They're a complete embarrassment in every which way, and they're the biggest laughing stock in the sport by far (either them or maybe the Orioles). I'm enjoying this, but good God the Mets fricking suck.

I feel this fits in this thread

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Mets’ minor-league OF Tim Tebow broke the hamate bone in his right hand swinging the bat this weekend and is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday and is now likely out for the season, per MLB source. #sticktobasketball

pretty sure a broken hamate bone is what nearly cost Warren Morris all of the season that ended with "the Walk Off"

Yuli Gurriel had the same thing, and while his average is pretty good, his power got worse from last season a good bit.

The problem with MLB; they have allowed the teams to artificially inflate, and only a select few can purchase. Having investor groups purchase teams typically make winning worse.

It's a relatively common injury. The hamate bone sits right on the knob of the bat. The newer ax handle style bats are supposed to lesson the risk, but their use isn't wide-spread.

That is the bone that stabilizes a football in your hand. If it’s injured, you can’t throw a spiral.
