I hated Miles by the end of his tenure, but respected the shite out of what he did with the program.

He won a shite load of games and was an incredible 44-1 against non conf opponents with the 1 loss on the road against the number 2-3 defense that season when Brandon shite himself and we had a chance to win with a FG.

Run defense stats:

2016:
Arkansas 94
Ole Miss 120

2017:
Arkansas 98
Ole Miss 124

For comparison:

2015:
Arkansas 12
Ole Miss 23

And of course Alabama was #1. Puts that three game losing streak in a bit more perspective huh? No idea how those teams got so great so quick then completely imploded, but O hasn’t faced anything close to what Miles did those last two years.

Even in 2014, everyone talks about how that was Bert’s first SEC win, but they had the #12 rush D in the country that year and took every SEC team they played to the wire that year, including a 1 point loss to Alabama. It was only a matter of time until they won one and playing them after ANOTHER heartbreaker to Alabama, the first year the game was moved, was just shitty timing for us.

They also stomped a mudhole in top 10 Ole Miss 30-0 the very next week after beating us. They were not a bad team, especially at that point in the season.

It was an absurd twist of fate that we faced those three teams one after the other when they happened to be at their peak and all boasted very good run defenses.

The way Miles played Urban Meyer led teams was probably his greatest accomplishment.

Can’t argue with that, although I’d say he certainly gave Saban all he could handle outside of 1/9.

I’d also put dominating Auburn 8-3 with two wins on The Plains was pretty damn impressive and tough to look past as Alleva was trying to run him out in 2015.

If he could have gotten that third road win in 2016 and go to 9-3 he’d still be here and we’d be in a much different scenario coming into this season imo.

No one will ever convince me that had the drama not gone down the way it did in 2015 with Miles being a dead man walking that whole offseason that the team doesn’t have a different energy going into the Wisconsin game and we get the W there.

Then that probably changes what happens at Auburn as well.

Alleva robbed us all of the chance to see Miles lead HIS players from that 2014 class for one last run at Alabama without the cloud of his almost firing/retaining the year before.

Every LSU fan should always wonder what could have been and hold Joe Alleva responsible for that unknown.

This is one reason why I hate the O sycophants. They've thrown their lot in with the incompetent Joe Alleva. To hell with all of them.

Don’t get me wrong, It was time for Les to go but not for the arse clown that was hired.

At least other schools wanted to interview Les. 0 schools wanted to interview 0. 0 schools were interested.

He lost to them 8 other times & I can guarantee they weren’t always against top 25 defenses

He deserves respect for accomplishing this, but This is what was expected. The 41-7 loss at the end of his tenure personified whatour program had become

7 actually. Like I said earlier, before 2015 he was 13-7 against those two teams, 65%. Not ideal but certainly not firable, especially while winning against Auburn, Florida, and MSU the way we were.

It’s interesting, his struggles with those two were isolated to 08-09 and 14-15. He went 2-6 against them in those four seasons.

In his other seven years, he was 11-3 against them. Kind of blows your theory out of the water actually.

08, 09, and 14 were obviously our worst years under Miles and coincided with pretty damn good teams from those two.

The 2015 three game slide was the perfect storm for Alleva to take his shot at Miles and sell it to a frustrated fan base.

Even though he couldn’t close the deal the damage was done and 2016 was wasted.

Uh, that was 2014 and the 2015 Auburn defense still hasn’t gotten up from getting turfed by LF

2014 was the best year top to bottom in SEC West history and we were a team already building around our freshman class. And we went 8-4. (9-3 last year in perhaps the worst SEC in history)

It was bad, but everyone knew that class was our future and we were taking our lumps.

2015 we got up to #2 before, again, that perfect storm of run defenses three in a row and the Alabama hangover.

And Alleva pounced. It was an emotional and opportunistic move for personal reasons, and it cost us in 2016 and continued to last year and into this offseason.

After years of a divided fan base, Alleva had the chance to unite us all. Just hire an offensive guy. Period.

Everyone would have been happy.

But he made the most ludicrous hire that I have ever seen given the situation.

LSU, the offensively challenged quarterback black hole, fires Les Miles and replaces him with........his defensive line coach who happens to be one of the worst coaches in SEC history

I simply can’t fathom how so many people went along with it and continue to to this day.

It just absolutely blows my mind.

. You’re a dumbass. Read what I JUST wrote and have written since I joined here about Miles. I said many many times he. needed to go.

There is no bull crap. He needed to go.

As far as his replacement? He needs to go NOW. We are worse off NOW than ever under Miles and that’s saying a lot.

I kind of feel bad for them sometimes.

I mean, they were taken advantage of by Alleva and especially Ponamsky and his local media brigade and sold a bill of goods with their judgement clouded by emotion.

I feel like they have to see numbers like that and be like, wait, that’s what we were so mad at Miles about in 15??

And that’s why we were so happy with O in 16??

WTF Joe???

among the teams that 2015 ARK and OM lost to:

Toledo
Mephis (37pts 500 yards offense)
Texas Tech( 35 pts 486 yards offense)

on top of 1200 yards of total offense against one another

stud defenses, let me tell you. We lost to these teams, again, by a combined 38 points!!! You ask in 2018 though, where have our expectations gone.

Les Miles was not immune to losing to any type of team these colleges fielded.

Their run defense rankings are what they are, not sure what to tell you.

If you don’t see how two teams with #12 and 23 rush defenses could spell trouble for that LSU team coming off of the Alabama hangover I suppose we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

Yeah bad losses. No doubt. No one ever said they weren’t.

And yet, when it comes to expectations, those losses didn’t change them for the previous coach.

Hell, we were ranked #5 going into 2016 despite the circus our AD put the program through because of those losses.

The poll voters knew how much potential that team had and weren’t swayed by emotion the way our fanbase and AD were after the perfect storm of tough scheduling in 15.

And the expectations were there in 2015, hence the coach getting practically fired.

So yeah, that’s why we ask where the expectations are now when an all time awful September registers nothing but excuses from the ones that were most vocal back in November of 15.

Again, Miles was 2-6 against them in 08-09 and 14-15, which included his three worst years and coincided with good teams from them.

The other seven years he was 11-3 against them. Not sure what’s so hard to understand about this.

ETA: Toledo won 10 games and I heard somewhere that excuses upset losses to teams like them.

Every night I go to sleep hoping I'll wake up with Les back and Alleva holding up a cardboard sign at the corner of College and Corporate.

Miles is just awesome. We've been playing ball on the bayou for more that 100 years and he arguably had the best coaching career of any coach we ever had. I'll acknowledge he faded toward the end but the folks that bitched for 11 straight years will one day look back and just wish they had enjoyed the ride.

I am a retired and a proud season ticket holder probably been one (1976)before you were in Nutville. I have a wonderful family with several grandkids. God has blessed me beyond anything I could have ever imagined coming from essentially nothing. I feel pretty good about where I ended up in life. Get to my age and you will realize that hoping and praying for results is not a strategic plan. Winners are defined in trial and error and you know it by how they carry themselves. Only age will teach you that.

I pay for and expect to have a winner as a coach. Alleva and King didn’t deliver what they promised.
