We are going to Branson for Thanksgiving and want to break up the drive from Lafayette. The most logical place seems to be Little Rock.
Me, wife, 4 year old, in laws. BIL and his fam. His kids are 8&10
Where should we stay?
Where should we avoid? (Where’s the hood)
Things to do
Places to eat?

some folks will crap all over the downtown area... I disagree.
Check the rates at the Little Rock Marriott Down Town, or the Capital Hotel if you want nostalgia. The Marriott has a trolley stop across the street, there are great places to eat down there, the children's museum, and the Clinton Library to name a few. The zoo isn't too far as well. The trolley will run all over downtown. For steak, Sonny Williams, or the River Front Steak house, or Does..
If there in time, Gusanos pizza has all the televisions and ball games on, cold draft, and a great place down there as well. Use Valet parking.
Check any concerts at Verizon Arena or Robinson Center prior to going. Robinson Center is 2 doors down from the Marriott. Went to see Don Henley, Alice Cooper, and Phantom of the Opera there. Great set up for intimate concerts.
anywho…. hope that helps.

Don't laugh..
Why? The buffalo Grill blows it away and is around the same price. Unless you like shakes with purple food coloring for the kids.
If your a foodie, loca luna, The Red Door,

Downtown is nice. Wasabi is a good spot for sushi and Asian. I know, who would have thunk in Arkansas?

Really can't go wrong staying downtown by the river. Multiple hotel options. Capitol Hotel is the nicest.
Eats:
Bruno's Little Italy
Samantha's Tap Room
Three Fold Noodle Co.
Cathead's Diner
The Root (SOMA)
South on Main (SOMA)
To-do:
Museum of Discovery
Clinton Presidential Library
Riverfront Trails (can walk or rent bicycles)
Heifer Village
Rocktown Distillery tour

Stayed there to break up my drive from Alexandria to Fayetteville for a football game. There's a really awesome bowling alley there and we ate at a kinda fancy place called Brave New Restaurant. It was really good.

Fantastic food. Crappy atmosphere (unless the weather is nice and you're on the patio).

Where should we stay?
Capital Hotel is awesome. Wife and I sometimes stay there to escape our children. Great bar. Their pimento cheese is great, as well as their burgers.
Where should we avoid? (Where’s the hood)
I don't go downtown often, but that's mainly because I don't like to leave my bubble. Areas around the river should be good to go, but it gets a bit sketchy the closer you get to the interstate. They've done a lot of work to make the downtown area safer, I just don't go down there enough to get a totally accurate read on how much things have changed.
Things to do
I'll echo Clinton Library. Museum of Discovery as well. If you were staying longer, Pinnacle Mountain is a good time. Lots of great breweries if you want to dump the kiddos with the in-laws and get some time to yourselves.
Places to eat?
If you are staying Downtown, I would second the above recommendations for Samantha's Tap Room. If you are heading further in to Little Rock, then Kemuri, Faded Rose, The Pizzeria, and Heights Taco are always good choices.

Wife was just at Samantha's Tap Room over the weekend and said she had one of the best meals she's had in a long time.

There is no way in hell we are going to the Clinton museum.

to each their own, but it is very interesting with a lot of political memorabilia, there may or may not be a certain blue dress in one of the cases.
In all seriousness, it is American History and very educational. FWIW.

Yeah I don’t get why people can’t put politics aside. I’ve heard it’s great

Had lunch there today and spotted some Republican items in the gift shop on my way out. They were outnumbered, but they were there.
