re: Magic's Plan: The Lakers don't want this LeBron team to look anything like his Cavs teams

The whole premise behind this is that Lebron can play more off the ball. Lebron is an elite ball handler and passer for any position. But Lebron is not an elite shooter for his position. It doesn’t make sense to tell Lebron you’re going to build a team around him not using his strengths and primarily using his weaknesses
Remember how bad Lebron was off the ball in Miami? Specifically when DWade had the ball? There’s a reason those Cavs teams were built to have James as the primary ball handler
James is the best player in the world when he’s a playmaker. He’s a matchup nightmare as the ball handler. He has incredible court vision and driving ability and passing ability.
Now take all that and have him set up in the corner for a 3 and he turns into someone that will need to retire sooner than later
TLDR: someone tell Magic he signed Lebron, not KD

His first year there, sure. He was great off the ball the other three years, '14 especially.
He still ranks highly in off ball scoring efficiency, there's just not much volume there with him playing with players who can't create.

I used to think this, but he's been improving as a shooter every year and I'd expect him to be even better this coming season. Wouldn't call him elite, but certainly dangerous enough to play off ball.
He's smart enough to know that he has to change his game in order to preserve the latter part of his career.

Lebron's biggest issue in Cleveland was that other Kyrie, no one on those teams was a creator/facilitator. Even Kyrie was more score first mentality, but with that said, he couldn't stay healthy.
In Miami, at least Wade could create his own shots and build offense for others. He then got old and injuries hampered him as well.
The same could be said for Harden. He was the only legitimate creator on the floor for Houston last year. As much as I hate the guy, he was asked to carry way too much in the offense similar to Russ in OKC last year as well.
Once Harden got Paul (another great facilitator), the offense completely blossomed and Harden had a significant load taken off his shoulders. Guys like Ryan Anderson and Melo are drains on their teams in a sense because they only bring one thing to play and that forces too much on one player.
In the end, the Warriors strength isn't that they have so many great shooters. It's that all 5 of their death lineup can create their own shot and and create for others very well. That is the gist of their success.
