Anyone with a family ever totally relocate to another state/region by choice?

I’m talking leaving behind extended family and roots, etc., not because of military or a job transfer. I mean pick a new spot, move there, and start a new life with just spouse and maybe a kid or two. What brought you to the decision? How did it go?

I picked up with my wife and moved from New Orleans to Mandeville and started a new life. Sometimes I get back to visit with all of my family.

World is too big to stay in one spot the rest of your life.
Go. Explore. Grow.
Family should have your back regardless. Plus if they ain’t going anywhere you can always move back.
It won’t be easy, but it’ll be worth it

I did, and am almost certainly going to do it again for keeps.

Did it 24 years ago. Two young kids and a wife. Took off sight unseen, no job there and it's the best thing I've ever done

No. No one. It’s not like our country was founded on that.

I moved to West Monroe from the Lafayette area for my wife. She lived with me for 10 years and we moved here a year ago. Its not bad. I live about 15 minutes South of Bawcomville. Its a change but its not bad.

Yes. I moved my wife and 3 kids (including a 4 week old baby) across the country for a job in a place we had always dreamed of living.
It was a tough move, but we made it work.

A less than 3 hour drive isn’t crap. If it’s feasible for you to leave work and then make dinner with your family by driving, that isn’t a major move.

Yes, in my twenties, without a pot to piss in. Now I’m married with a baby back close to both of our families. Looking back, I am happy I did it and enjoyed other cities.

Please don’t let them know I told.

Half of this board has done it. It’s like starting a thread “Has anyone eaten crawfish here?”

We did. Just felt like it was what I had to do to keep my family safe. In the end it was definitely worth it. Moved from BR to St George a couple years ago.

We probably will as soon as we have our second child and he/she is school aged. Wife and I both would get paid twice as much at our jobs in her home state (Massachusetts)
Much better scenery, great schools, and very very little culcha. Why continue to drown in the cesspool that is Louisiana?

Didn't like living down South, really felt a strong draw to Ak
Planned for about 18 months. Sold most of our stuff, built a trailer, packed it and took off on an epic road trip.

Yes I did. It was exciting and frightening at the same time. Worked my arse off for years but it all paid off. I am so glad I did it. My family is very close to one another because it was us against the world. You better have a strong constitution and good work ethic, and network yourself as well. The satisfaction you get from knowing you did it unaided is heartwarming.
