I am currently taking Dr. Devireddy for ME 3333 this summer. It was originally supposed to be with Dr. Harris Wong and 2 months, but the department changed it to Dr. D and 1 month. Class size has dropped considerably and there are only 23 students. Most people are on track to make an F. Does Dr. D curve?

No curve as of now. He hasn’t announced or said anything about it. It’s somehow harder because he doesn’t give partial credit. He grades tough. Test grades like 20%, 30%, 40% are what most people are getting.

You are right! I messed up because my engineering advisors and friends keep telling me hard Engineering classes are easier in the summer because you pay extra for them, so they do pass everyone as long as you are around average. I’m not sure how true this holds anymore.

I like summer classes to be the harder ones because the teachers are more lenient and I get to see the material almost every day.

Yeah but the class is way harder than the way Dr. Walker teaches in the Fall and Spring.

If Harris Wong is easier, then your life is gonna suck. I had Devireddy for thermo for ME majors. I dropped because my grades were garbage. I found out later that most, if not all that saw the class through to the final passed the class. But only like 30% of the class made it to the final. He didn't teach all that well, but in hindsight it was easy compared to when I took it again. I did better thought because it was taught better.

I don't remember which class ME3333 was. Fluids?

Either way, Dr. D grades much harder than Dr. Wong and will not do any curving over maybe 1 or 2 points. Passing grade was 56 when I took the class. It was much more manageable with Wong the second time around.

From my experience, almost everyone technically fails thermo but somehow manages to come out with a passing grade.

That was my thoughts in Chem 2. Dunno why but that was one of the hardest classes of my college career. Could have been the teacher and not the subject.

Dr. Wong

Dr Wong or Dr. Wang? Harris Wong was a strict grader when I was there. I literally got a perfect score or in the 60's in his class. I think I had 2 perfect tests and a 60 to end up with a low B or a C. And the 60 was one incorrect statement carried throughout the problem. He marked it wrong in every single equation it was used in. Didn't give partial credit when the rest of the "method" for solving was correct.

Harris Wong. I'm not saying he grades easy but his class was mostly derivations of theories. Dr. D was just a dick (no pun intended) when it came to grading his tests.

Sounds about right. When I was at LSU there was no curve, and they just failed everyone without care. Good luck.

Why do engineers give a frick about derivations of the theories? That's what the math majors love. I just want the formula to use.

I remember being in calculus and learning the limit form of the derivative then getting to the derivative rules. I was perplexed why we spent so much time on something I'll never ever use again (limit form).

Because if you understand calculus you can manipulate a formula to find other variables that arent immediately apparent. Its a much more powerful technique than simply being given a formula- so that in the event youre given other variables than what your formula calls for, you can chabge the equation to fit your needs.
