The music on this show is really good. Whiskey Myers was playing at the bar in the previous episode. The new hand that he picked up the prison is Ryan Bingham.
I feel like the show hasn't taken off yet, but I am hooked. It seems like there is a set up for a big pay off. Hopefully, that is the case.

Does this show resemble cheesy longmire in tone, or is there grit to it?

There’s definitely grit. Great show

is it like a rated "R" show, with f-bombs and nudity? basically like an hbo show, or is it more like an FX show? i'm not sure what kind of channel paramount tv is tbh.

yes. lots of f-bombs and every other cuss word.
And the sister likes to get nekkid.
ETA: curious to see if the other rich guy's wife or his side piece get nekkid too.

excellent. i was hoping the channel would be more like hbo than basic cable. much more excited for the show now knowing they don't have to censor.

Can't find the exact quote but it was something like " you have 2 choices, you can either walk away....or you can frick me".

I'm conflicted on this show. I despise Kelly Reilly and her character. She's supposed to be 34, looks 54, and acts 14. The first couple episodes, I honestly thought she was Costner's mistress or something because she looks so similar in age.
Thw whole "ranch mafia" stuff also comes across as very cheesy, especially the "branded man" stuff. Costner is also not great in this, but the Kasey actor is good plus the addition of Ryan Bingham was top notch.
That guitar scene was spectacular.
I also don't understand the Jimmy stuff. He's obviously in pain and hates his life.
The Indian actors are very good though and I like them more and more each week, especially the Thomas actor who was in Hell or High Water.
I'll still watch the show for the scenery and because of Sheridan, but I really feel this film should have been set in the 1880s and not present day, that way all the killing and stuff makes more sense.
Nobody now is going to do that stuff for $400 bucks a week now and no party lifestyle like mafia/crime guys have.

The navy federal credit union cut is the father of the rapes girl.

As soon as he started singing, I kept thinking that I knew that voice. I was (still am, to be honest) obsessed with "The Weary Kind." It is, quite possibly, my favorite Oscar-winning original song. It's brilliant.

i actually like the daughter's character. says what the frick she wants to say and backs it up. only man she's intimidated by is the dad. As it should be.
All the guns and chest thumping in this show but,Rip is the real bad arse.
Kayce is just a cloud of bad luck. I'd stop pushing for him to come back home.
The new chick that is teaming up with Jenkins is hot.

For season 1 they really haven't delved into anything yet.
A lot of open ended things but nothing has really happened. They introduce new characters every show it seems like.
Now that they greenlighted season 2 I wonder what the cliffhanger is going to be to end season 1.

As a huge fan of Sheridans other work I watched two episodes and stopped. After the first ep I was thinking ok this has potential. Second episode was not great and then I watched a season preview commercial that came off like I was watching some sort of shitty soap opera reboot. I really don't like the daughters character because she comes off as cartoonish and cliche to me. It was also pretty hard for me to buy fly helicopters and having AR battles. Whole thing just seemed melodramatic.

My biggest grief with Sheridan is his lack of restraint, he needs a good editor. Someone to tell him no.
This show is Sheridan at his least restrained, and his most over the top.
Less is more.
