Freezer out in LG Refridgerator

Hey guys, the freezer in our LG LSXS26366S Refrigerator is out. Since my wife and I haven’t reached OT Baller status we’d like to fix it ourselves before calling in a person to repair it.
Problem is, neither of us know anything about refrigerators... I’ve taken the back paneling out of the freezer and the fan seems to be working fine. Also the coils are relatively clean. Is there anything else that I can self check before calling in a expert?

Usually there is only one cooling system in a fridge
Not sure how freezer could be out and not the fridge.

Those LG fridges are really terrible machines.

First just try to unplug for about a minute then plug back in. sometimes a computer in it needs to be reset.

About a year ago I noticed my fridge wasn't as cold as it should be and got busy checking it out.
First thing I did was take a long nozzle on my vacuum and cleaned the coils on the underside of the unit as they were getting a lot of dust and cat hair accumulating on them.
Then I took everything out the freezer and removed all the back panels and saw the cooling coils in it were jammed with ice. The wife's hair dryer made quick work with defrosting it and I put it all back together.
It worked fine for a few days and just when we thought we dodged a $$$$ bullet, it went out again. It was a fairly old unit so we just went out and got a new one and relegated the old one to the man cave where it died one more time before going curbside.

did you have alot of stuff in there? my wife has over crowded our freezer a couple times, once as recent as last month and it stopped working. look at the back inside the freezer at the fan and pipes and see if they are frozen. Overcrowding will call them to freeze up. we just stuck a blow drier in there and thawed it and left unplugged over night. Started back fine

I have the same model. It’s about a year old and the freezer stopped working last week. All I did was unplug the fridge for about 5 mins and it started working again.

I know people who have been techs for decades who won't fool with LG fridges. So many issues.
Though I would look for a build up of frost in your freezer. Hopefully it's just a defrost failure and you can change a sensor and be done.
Though it could also be one of the control boards or the compressor even. (Known for failing seals).
First, you need to clean out the freezer and get to the coils.
Covered in frost = bad defrost system
Covered in ice = bad drain
No frost at all = compressor/sealed system issue
It could also be a fan issue, but that's less of a factor in the freezer than the fridge. Especially in dual cool.
Speaking of dual cool, it could also be the proportioning valve. If you only have one compressor with two evaporators you have a valve that diverts flow.
Oddly it works so hard because LG can't cool the freezer and fridge at same time.
My advice.... buy machines from companies with more than two letters in their names.
An Lg fridge isn't a Whirlpool Dryer, I'm not sure I feel like it's a job for diy.
For instance it's impossible to remove the fridge evap cover in one piece so it has to be changed every time it's removed (if iced over)
Your fridge is notorious in our circles for being the one that you have to swap the entire door out of to fix the ice maker freeze up issues.

About a year ago the same thing happened to our 18 month old lg. Go google lg fridge issues. There are pages and pages of problems with them.
Starts withe freezer. Then whole fridge.
We had two techs out over three weeks and it never was better.
Finally argued with Lowe’s long enough that the extended warranty people refunded all of our original purchase price.
We went to a local place and got a Frigidaire.

Is it still under warranty? Make LG fix it. Sounds like a manufacturer defect to me

My folks had the exact same problem with their LG. Cost them $400 because it wasn’t covered by the warranty.
Solution: get rid of that Korean POS and go buy an American-made GE or Whirlpool.
