Even if he was a little nuts, the guy was a musical virtuoso and consumate entertainer:

Where were all the Prince threads before he died?

Never has been or ever will be an all around musician and performer as great as Prince. Simple as that.

Eric Clapton was asked once "What does it feel like to be considered the best guitarist in the world?" His answer was "You need to ask Prince."

I love Prince’s music. Musicology album being one of my favorites.

And research what he said about Jimi, Duane, Chuck, BB, Stevie, etc.

Those guys are great in their own right, but NO ONE could play virtually every instrument while performing LIVE like he did, (jumping off of pianos straight into the splits, etc..). Sadly and ironically, doing those splits probably caused the injury that got him hooked on the painkillers that took him too soon.

5 down votes? I think it's hysterical that there's a large segment of white rock and rollers who absolutely cringe at the thought of Prince being given much more than a seconds thought in regards to how talented he truly was on guitar. I mean, it's like they say to themselves....there's no way a guy who made pop/rock/R&B can even be mentioned in the same the breath with Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, King, Van Halen.

No, he didn’t. Urban myth. Google is your friend.
Was Prince a great musician and performer? Yeah.
Was Prince a great guitarist? No.
Heres what Clapton said about Prince when he died, which would have been an appropriate and proper place to have said something about his ability with a guitar, but he didn’t:

Hank Williams, Jr. played several instruments live in his heyday. Guitar, piano, fiddle...

So you’re saying people that say Prince wasn’t a great guitarist are racist... but use Jimi Hendrix as an example of someone who “white rock and rollers” find great instead of Prince because they’re racist?

Meh. I think the work speaks for itself - Prince was a virtuoso on keys and guitar. While his greatest legacy is probably just the sheer volume of music created (much of it remains unreleased) and a good bit of it is bubblegum synth pop/rock/funk/R&B (the Minneapolis sound he introduced to a wider audience), it doesn't detract from his skills on that most rock of all instrument - the six-string electric guitar.
Was Prince the greatest guitarist ever? I don't think so. But, as much of this is subjective, that shouldn't preclude him from being great.
Hell, as a rock guitarist, Clapton himself is overrated (although he is certainly one of the best blues guitarists, regardless of color and a great rock guitarist, despite being overrated).

Did hank jr play the drums also? Did he dance and do the splits while playing the guitar? C'mon dude, nobody put on a live show like prince did!!

Aside from 3 or 4 albums in the late 70s into the early 80s the guy made some horrible music. I mean really frikin' awful.

His "golden era" was from 1982-88 when he was absolutely on fire musically. I would agree that MOST ( not all) of his stuff after was for hardcore fans only. This is subjective though, and 100 mill+ album sales would say he was a lot more than a few good albums.

I can play the guitar and pet my dog's belly with my feet. According to Rusty, I put on the best live show ever! IRL Prince was a competent guitarist, nothing less, nothing more. Dancing around like the purple guy on the diet DR Pepper commercials and playing at the same time is not an unbelievable skill. Just ask Rusty, I'm the best at music/belly rubs.

Uh, I think you may have just proved yourself incorrect in the assumption of race being a factor............ If I used Hendrix as an example and the last I checked, Hendrix was in fact a black man......then my statement had little to with race and more to do with whites who listen to rock and roll.
I could easily turn the scenario around and say.......John Mayer doesn't get enough credit as a guitarist from a large segment of blacks who primarily listen to R&B.
You can call my statement racist if you'd like....doesn't change the fact that hardcore rock and rollers never game the man his props on guitar.

So I suppose Stevie Gaines was a better guitarist than Prince? This shite is about to get good.

I bet you were once a huge fan of Donovan Mcnabb.... you know that guy that was an OK quarterback, but to some he was better than Joe Montana because of a certain quality(similar to geauxbrown). IRL Prince and Mr Mcnabb are very similar.
