I know it’s already in the MSB, but it’s summer and this needs to be shared again and again. It’s awful reading the news and seeing another story about a little kid who drowned in a pool. A tragedy beyond belief. This is 100% preventable guys. Here is what you need to do.

+ If a bunch of kids are in a pool, have a dedicated adult (NOT in the pool) keeping watch. Make it their one job. Don’t distract them by chatting with them excessively. They can’t walk away unless someone comes and relieves them.

+ Keep your pool area locked up like Fort Knox. Suck it up and spend the cash to do this. All of the money in the world can’t bring your child back.

+ Have a swim instructor your kid how to swim or the “roll on the back” technique.

+ Learn CPR in case - God forbid - you have to use it.

Yeah I won’t have a pool until the kids are 30.

Man, that is terrible...I don't think I could recover from something like that.

I don't understand how you're not watching your baby like a hawk at all times when around a pool.

Often it’s parties. A bunch of kids go swimming and parents think the other parent is watching.

Ends up nobody is watching.

How does a parent ever recover? How do their other children deal with their parent's grief? It will destroy them all. So very heartbreaking.

Just resurfaced mine. Kids are 5 , 3 and 5 months. The oldest two can already swim a 25m pool(3 year old with roll technique for breaks). We have basically a three door system to get to pool. Door with latches (on top) in kitchen, locked patio screen door ( with bolt on top), locked pool screen.

There are pools everywhere in south Florida and we wanted to make sure they were proficient by the time each was 3. Hopefully the little guy will pick it up quickly wanting to be with the older two.

Because like others have said. In no way would I recover from losing on of them in an accident like that.

A good friend lost his middle child in a pool drowning at 2 years of age. The pool was within 30 seconds of a hospital er.

It happened so fast and there was nothing anyone could do to save that child. The couple divorced a short time after.

Horrible tragedy.

Just awful. Little kids have to be watched extra closely when there is a pool nearby.

ETA: If you have a pool in your yard, all doors leading to it need to be self-closing/locking with an alarm/beep that sounds when the door is open.

My parents put in a pool when the grandkids started coming, and every door in the house makes a loud "BEEP" when it is opened. You always know when someone leaves the house.

Radio personality in Birmingham lost his 2 year old in a pool drowning years ago.
I think he was out of town on a religious speaking engagement when the accident occurred.
Makes you wonder.

I’m not certain on the particulars here but some people we know lost one of their children drowning in their pool.

Older sibling left a door open or something similar. And before they could figure it out it was too late.

Our child is currently in ISR classes and I highly recommend them to anyone with a kid that you know will be around water.

From what I've seen from parents who have lost children, you don't ever recover. Just learn to live with a new somber reality.

I remember looking at houses when my son was less than 2. Any house with a pool was automatically crosser off the list. Little ones are already challenging enough to watch and still get into things without adding a pool to the mix. Every time the house would get quiet, my mind would immediately freak and turn to the swimming pool.

We’re installing a pool now and kids are 4 and 3 yr old. I already put a deadbolt on the back door, which stays locked and needs a key to open which is hidden up high from them. I like the door alarm idea too.
