re: Why does Mobile, AL always promote that “We live on the beach”

Birmingham Metro is. And downtown Birmingham is becoming a great place, but it is still losing residents to the suburbs. In fairness the city's boundaries are weird. Kind of like how you can live in Old Metairie and be in downtown Nola in 10 minutes - people in Mountain Brook can do the same thing.
Hmmm...can't the same be said for Mobile? I thought everyone was moving across the bay (Fairhope and Spanish Fort) for better schools, no crime, etc? I'm not trying to bicker with you, but I merely thought of Mobile as nothing more than a bigger and better Biloxi?
What industry is in Mobile? I assume shipping, importing, exporting? Anything else?

Spring Hill and USA probably employ a lot of people

I guess it's a decent enough little college, but Spring Hill is about the size of an average suburban high school. I can't imagine its metro employment influence is all that substantial.

Via ferry, and that’s if you catch it exactly when you pull up.
I thought you drove from Mobile to Dauphin Island.
Head to Tillmans corner then down 193.
But yea it's still about 45 min from Mobile to Dauphin Island.
My Ex FIL owns this joint you pass at 188/193. Karaoked many a terrible song there years ago when it was a bar. Now it's a makeshift hardware store I think.

The insecurity in New Orleans and Louisiana is strong. And for good reason.
They get really testy when Mobile is brought up. It’s strange

Shipping is a huge industry, it employs a ton of people, and its growing in Mobile. Not just the ports, but they are building ships there too. There are a ton of chemical plants to just to the north.
Yes people are leaving the city for the suburbs, but not at nearly the pace of NOLA, Jackson, etc.
I don't live there so I don't have a dog in the hunt, but I watch the Mobile news when at the beach, and what I see is impressive.
Their mayor does not look, think or act like the mayors of Birmingham, Jackson, NOLA, BR, Atlanta, B ham, Memphis and Montgomery.

The cities are a little different. Mobile maxed out its city limits decades ago, so its population will never grow that much. They annexed some land to the west recently but not much to make a difference. But, yes, people are moving across the Bay because you can get to downtown Mobile quickly from there. The difference between Bham and Mobile is - Bham's problem is basically white flight and the money is leaving with it. Mobile doesnt have that problem.
Mobile has diversified economy, which is good for them: aerospace (mainly Airbus), steel, shipping/ship building, healthcare, etc.

Mobile is growing west and there’s still a lot of room out that way.
I think if it were Mobile, TX many of our OT locals would be quick to praise it as a historical city with a lot of perks that’s actually on the rise.
But it’s in Alabama and we have to keep pretending like Alabama the State sucks compared to Louisiana because Alabama the football team kicks LSU’s arse every November. They need to have “something” over Alabama, it keeps the physche intact for some of the fringe lunatics that post here that let a game cloud their judgment.

A buddy of mine who lives in Mobile once asked me to go over for a long weekend. So I drove out there, and his neighborhood was so nice. Pine trees everywhere, it was like he lived in the forest. It was almost like I was in Oregon or something instead of on the golf coast

If all the Louisiana people would find their own beach and quit slamming on their brakes in the tunnel there would never be traffic. Locals fly through there all day going 75 and there is never traffic
Yes X 1000
With regard to the beach statement. I think that anything occurs within a given city's metro area then the city can claim it.

I like the midtown area in particular.
