I know this has been posted before, but I must suck at searching because I couldn't find anything.
How much per linear foot are people charging these days for wooden fences? I am in Houston fwiw.

The price I got a month or so ago came out to around $20/ linear foot... I'm around Lafayette.
ETA: The price I got was also with galvanized posts...treated pine was roughly $19/ft and cedar was $21/ft...no gates, straight 6' fence.

Basic 6' pine is around $8/ft for materials. Installed is about double that. More gates = mo money.

2 years ago, I paid $16 a foot for 6' pine with a double gate for my trailer.

If I was you go with the cedar. Will last much longer and the ears on the top won't flex back and forth like treated pine does. Also looks better aesthetically.

Does this include pulling up the old fence?
If not how much do you think is reasonable?

Has anyone switched or converted to horizontal fencing?

I was quoted $13.50 a foot on the northshore by a guy we do work with. I ended up just doing it on my own. ~250' was about $8.50/ft in materials

Depends on where your at. I’ll tell you this though, don’t do treated pine. It will look like shite in 3 years. Spend the extra and do cedar.
I own a landscaping company in dallas and I won’t even install treated pine.
$24 a foot for cedar. That includes
-steel post
-2x4x8 treated rails
-3.5 cedar pickets (5.5’s are $25 a foot)
I charge $150 a gate.
Also, y’all let me know where y’all are getting materials for $8.50 a foot, because it doesn’t exist in Dallas,Tx

I built one myself a few years ago after getting quotes for $18-$20 per ft for treated pine. Ended up doing it for $8-$9 a ft. Here’s a few tips -
- treated pine is fine if you put the top and bottom rails close enough to the ends. I think I went 6 inches. Cedar would be better if you want to spend the money
- stagger your rails with 16 and 8 ft boards so everything is tied in together. Makes the entire fence stronger.
- pour pea gravel in the bottom of every post hole to allow the moisture to drain and not rot the bottom of the posts
- cut off the top of the posts before installing pickets. Easier to do it this way.
- use 3 deck screws and 3 nails in each picket or all deck screws if you want to spend a little extra. Nails pop out over time
- leave enough room b/w the bottom of the pickets and the ground so you don’t damage the pickets while weed eating.

I used treated pine, Lowes had it on sale for $1.05 a picket. Used three runners. Eight foot 4x4 post, 2x4x8 and 2x4x16 runners. Four foot gate in the back and eight foot gate next to the house. 2 1/2" screws for the pickets, and 3 1/2" screws for the runners. 80lb. quick crete, wheelbarrow, shovel, garden hoe, post hole digger, electric drill with phillips head bit, level, and some nylon string. Never built a fence in my life. Here's a picture of it. IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

I’ve now built 2 with the last one built better than the first. About to build another one soon. Trying to wait til it cools off if my wife lets me.

Approx $16-20/foot. Depends on gates, design, and terrain. Consider, too, the cost of replacing it and consider a high quality vinyl (approx $30/ft). Wood fences dont last. Many in my neighborhood are standing way beyond the point at which they should have been replaced. Factor that in over your lifetime in that home. Just my two cents.

For wood posts, its about $8-9 per foot for materials. Think the last time i hear, 2x that installed.

For pine...
$3 per ft for pickets ($1.50 each) = $24 for 8ft
3 8ft rails = $4.50 each = $13.50 for 8 ft
1.5 posts for each section = $10each = $15 for 8 ft
1.5 bag of quikrete $3.50 a bag = $5.25
Thats $58 for an 8ft section with wood posts, so $7.25 + screws and such.
Thats my figuring anyway...
