Some really nasty looking people work there. The burgers are good but the staff look like they just got out of rehab for meth.

As far as I know, there's only 2 remaining in the N.O area, one uptown and the other on Clearview in Metairie. I know of one more on Hwy. 61 near Laplace.

When I was a kid growing up in the late 50's there was one in Arabi right below the Parish line separating St. Bernard from New Orleans and we'd go there at least once a month or so for the burgers, fries and that frozen mug root beer that was to die for.

The wife and I have been to the one on Clearview a few times and they hold a car rally there every once in a while where lots of older hot rods and hot rodders drive in to show off their cars and chow down on the food offered. It's a good way to spend a couple hours looking at the cars, talking to the owners and eating some burgers.

I buy the Zatarains Root Beer concentrate and make my own.

That's some old school stuff there and I too still do it. Every Sunday when I was a kid, we'd go to my aunt's house for dinner and she'd have Zatarains Root Beer, real lemonade or iced tea and a feast on the table for the family to enjoy.

I still make my own root beer every once in a while using that extract.

There's one in Destrehan that moved from Jefferson Highway in Metairie. There's only 13 left nationwide and Louisiana has 6 of them. There's one in Thibodaux and one in Greenville, MS too.

Remaining locations (Scroll down)

The one in Thibodaux is nothing more than an empty concrete pad now. It's been closed about a year now.

If you ever get down to Houma you can stop at PFG Caro. They sell the Lot-O-Burger patties. They also sell Diversified Foods Red Beans, which are the same recipe as Popeyes Red Beans.

I head to Laplace to buy andouille sausage a Bailey's about 3-4 times a year and will often stop at that same Frostop when up that way.

It brings me back to when I was a kid and they were some of the first go-to places for a decent burger. They also had a Royal Castle a few blocks away from the Frostop that I went to when young. Loved me some of those little Castle Burgers.
