Taking my son down for the first couple of days, not very familiar with the area, looking for a decent hotel for a decent price down there.

Immediate Hoover area is going to cost a little more. Search Pelham (20 minutes away) for much cheaper rates.
For the past four or five years, I've stayed at the Hampton Collonade for cheap, especially if you can use points. Cash rate is about $126/night. LINK

Pelham is a solid area. Safe.
I live in Homewood, so if you need any recommendations on food or so forth let me know.

You don’t have to join in if you don’t feel like recommending..
It’s nice to actually have discussions with fellow Tiger fans.
I would value the opinion of our fan base over unknown randoms who might not even be giving real reviews. This is something a number of Tiger fans may have experienced.
I’m a huge google fan too.. but sometimes it’s nice to get other perspectives.

Vestavia has some decent hotels on hwy 31 that are fairly close and inexpensive. As others have said Pelham would be a good option. Irondale is about 20 minutes away but it’s abother option if you’re more concerned about price.

The LSU team usually stays at the Hyatt Regency Wynfrey Hotel at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover.

I'm at Home 2 Suites (Hilton) Collonade for work but am hoping we get done in time to watch some baseball each night.
Any problem walking up and buying tickets for the night game?

Wynfrey is very close and won't break the bank. A lot of teams stay there, so your son may think that's cool.
As another poster stated, Pelham is a good area and relatively close.

Never a problem. Free to park and buy tickets at gate behind home plate.

I've bought session tickets at the ticket window one hour before the first game of a session many times.
You'll have your choice of reserved seats (chair backs with arm rests & cup holders lower down closer to the field) or general admission (aluminum benches but with a back rest).
GA is better, IMO, because you can move around to get behind whichever dugout LSU is in for that game and you can better avoid the sun.

Don’t have a hotel rec but when you go, make sure you make it over to the RV park. It’s adjacent to the stadium and loaded with Tiger fans.

I live in Hoover. Embassy Suites is a pretty good choice. It is at 2960 John Hawkins Parkway.

I've used the info on this board numerous times to get different perspectives on what to focus on when I go to different places, google doesn't give you that.
Tickets are usually pretty easy to get for all games especially now that Bama is out. Bama will get the local draw.

Hyatt Regancey 100%. Stayed there last year. It's over the galleria, and all the teams stay there. Very nice place. 10 min from the park.

Hope you enjoy the game with your son....ive been before many times but I'm tired of going to the same venue every year....wish the SEC would move it around....hoover is nothing special to me...

Make sure to head over to the new Fan Fest building beyond the right field fence. A/C, a place to eat, and tons of games/activities for the young ones.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I know I could easily Google this, but you definitely don't get a good idea for the area from a hotel search.
And I know my son will love it. He is only 4, but he wants to watch baseball every second of the day

Not during the week. Weekend could be tougher but the met is big. Lots of tix available. I think it seats at least 10K
