I think they're moving away from the DCEU and will make stand alone films.

There were some good bits in the Hobbit trilogy. Everything with Smaug was great.

But it was surrounded by a ton of BS

The Nostalgia Chick did a pretty good 90 minute autopsy on it: LINK

Guillermo Deltoro was going to direct The Hobbit, then at the last minute he had to pull out to make Pacific Rim.

The studio filed for bankruptcy and all their projects, including The Hobbit and Skyfall, were in jeopardy. Del Toro didn't feel like waiting around to see what happened so he left.

LOTR - amazing cinematic achievements in a trilogy with great casting, acting, directing, pacing, special effects, source material adaptations and writing.

Hobbit - the exact opposite of the LOTR.

What happened?

Was in NZ before the hobbit came out. A lot of the people locally that were involved in the movie business thought the hobbit was produced way too much within the studios and green screens in Wellington.... way too much cgi.

They said the LOTR was essentially a love letter to their country and Jackson’s home where the entire movie and settings were meticulously scouted and planned for years. Most of the movie was shot in amazing locations all over the country, and everyone involved really embraced the entire project and the epic scale of it.

He got fat and lazy with the hobbit and the studio stretched it way too thin.

Disagree. The Hobbit had good casting as well. Everything else sucked.
