It’s projected to free up 4-7 million for 2018. This thread is what Saints fans ‘wish’ this extension did but alas, Saints talk is void of reality, shocker.

Not only defense.
Coaching, game calling.
The entire team choked.

Actually, Matt Ryan and Julio were 2 players that didn’t.

No one knows yet. I’d imagine it’s a bit more of a cap hit, just like every time Drew Brees resigns.
It’s inevitable if you have a good QB. There’s only about 5-7 teams that wouldn’t trade QBs with us.

Like it should. But it doesn't do much for you now since all those bigger name guys are signed.

We don't need bigger names...we need them to quit making stupid fricking mistakes which is what last year was. Dumb penalties at dumb times...thats coaching, not roster.

Stupid players make stupid mistakes on and off the field.
We have had our share of them.
Once again, we are focused on intelligence and character when drafting or picking up FA players.
“Smart might not win games, but stupid will lose them”...Bobby Knight.
Or something like that. :)

Yep I feel the same as far as the big names. The Saints have tried that and been burned, we’ve hit jackpot also, but I prefer going after one big name guy and the rest being 2nd tier type players and a good draft. Warford was our big name last year and Davis this year. I think I got those names right. Oh yea and we make mistakes at crucial times also, see Vikings playoff game. Still love our young safety though

am I the only one concerned with how out of hand these contracts given to QBs are getting?

They should have offered him 28 million for 3 years.

I hope this paralyzes the Atlantans from the business side.

Not literally, that’d be shitty to wish.

No, it’s a problem but the salary cap goes up and up every year. Imagine how shittastic this league would be without:
Brady
Rodgers
Brees
Rapelisburger
Ryan
Stafford?
Flacco?
Cousins?

We’d all quit watching without them.

Because it’s definitely Joe fricking Flacco that keeps me watching.

Honestly, what were they supposed to do?

not give a QB 100million guarenteed.

Edit: I joke when I say this. You are technically right, but god damn that is a hell of lot of money to give one player. I think they could have done 25mil less, but hell what do I know. Besides the fact that it is A LOT OF MONEY tied into one guy. Like someone else mentioned, its a ridiculous amount of money tied into 2 player (including Julio).

For perspective, Julio and Ryan will account for 25ish % of the teams cap for the inevitable future. And for perspective of how much the 25% is of the 100%, they are 9% of the starters and 3.75% of the entire team. I already know I worded that weirdly (had a few whiskeys). And also, no one needs to explain to me that they are the best 2 players on their team along with the fact that they are tops in the league at what they do. Im just spewing numbers for all.
