I just don't understand the point of this movie. There are no stakes, no one can die or get injured, we already know the outcome of every main plot point, and no one asked for it. The only thing this movie can do is further annoy the fanbase and take a giant steaming shite on the characters TLJ didn't get thr chance to retcon or write into meaningless bullshite.

Kathleen Kennedy is a worthless count.

Point is probably entertainment.

How do you know this?

It may end up doing that but it is possible but it certainly doesn't have to.

I do agree that this one seems intended to be more of an action joyride starring one the best characters in the Star Wars universe than anything. It doesn't seem to be designed to be a "vital to the whole saga" backstory type movie. Even so, just a good action adventure about Solo would still be worthwhile if done right.

My 6 year old's favorite star wars character is Han Solo so we will be heading to the theaters to hopefully enjoy the show.

Just as a fun story to delve deeper into the character (at least I assume). A character driven story as opposed to a plot driven story - which is somewhat common in the fantasy genre, at least in books.

Movie may be shite but if it is, it won't be because we know that Han Solo survives in the end.

This was John Byrne's complaint about the awesome Superboy character that he deleted. He couldn't understand why anyone could care about the adventures of Superman as a boy, since he could never be in mortal danger.

Nevermind that comic readers knew that the adult Superman would never be killed off permanently in his comics, since, they were Superman's comics.

The prequel portions of Godfather II were pretty amazing, even though you knew how it would end up for Vito and Clemenza. I really enjoyed X-Men first class, even though I knew that Charles and Magneto were never in danger of losing their lives.

It’s an origin type movie of iconic characters. Sounds awesome.

Only the characters we are already familiar with do we know will survive (Solo, Calrissian, Chewie). Everyone else is fair game.
