I just don't understand the point of this movie. There are no stakes, no one can die or get injured
This was John Byrne's complaint about the awesome Superboy character that he deleted. He couldn't understand why anyone could care about the adventures of Superman as a boy, since he could never be in mortal danger.
Nevermind that comic readers knew that the adult Superman would never be killed off permanently in his comics, since, they were Superman's comics.
The prequel portions of Godfather II were pretty amazing, even though you knew how it would end up for Vito and Clemenza. I really enjoyed X-Men first class, even though I knew that Charles and Magneto were never in danger of losing their lives.

I've already covered the comic book VS Star Wars comparisons. And the Godfather comparison is asinine. That was a brilliant cast, director, writer, etc... I don't feel like further expounding on that. The prequel parts were in service to a larger story and hadn't already been told in a different movie.
I'll just say this:
The only chance this movie has is that Kasdan wrote it. So there's a good chance it won't assrape Star Wars established Lore into the ground. But all of the rumors have been terrible, it's been through three directors, Kathleen Kennedy is the Producer, there's a rumor that the lead can't act, Glover on SNL as Lando was horrendous, etc...
I hope it's amazing, I do, but I know better. And I'm not supporting anything Kathleen Kennedy touches anymore. She's been an executive producer on some amazing movies in the 80s and 90s and then around 2001 she started to just preside over dogshit movies that culminated in TLJ.
Also, if anyone needed another reason to hate her, she's also responsible for The Last Airbender movie and Indiana and the Crystal Skull,

Yeah, I'm pumped for Solo, but they have pretty much killed my interest for episode 9 and I'm a die hard Star Wars guy.
This.

The other problem I have with this movie is the trailer makes it look like Han Solo's entire backstory seems to have taken place in like a week.
He meets Chewey, meets Lando, gets the Falcon, joins the smuggling life, and does the Kessel Run all in the span of a couple days and it's the first thing he does as an adult when he leaves his parents house.
His life wasn't a long and rich history of smuggling and meeting people and upgrading ships and finding a friend in chewy, etc... Where he learns lessons and becomes a better pilot and mechanic and smuggler, and developing depth to his character and morals, etc... No. His entire life's backstory happened to him all at the same time all in the span of a couple days right at the beginning of his life. Then he spent the next 30 years just as a smuggler with no development and no learning and no changes until he meets Luke.
It's the equivalent of if the Godfather 2 prequel scenes showed Don Corleone walk off the boat from Sicily, meet a mafia guy, immediately run the mafia, and then immediately be respected everywhere without any development or meaning.

Have you ever watched the trailers for Godfather II? In one of them, that's pretty damn close to what they show. Maybe we should watch the movie before saying it's not good...

Maybe you should mind your own fricking business.

Maybe you should stop being a pussy.
People will go watch this movie, they will like this movie, and it will make a ton of money. So will the next one, and the one after, and so on.
Being a bitch about it won't change that.

Im no big Star Wars fan, at all. I have probably only seen about 3-4 movies combined, so Im likely not welcomed to post here
But this movie looks somewhat fun, so I may go see it eventually.. I never watched TLJ, but i have definitely heard all about it. What was it that made the movie so bad. Was it bad in comparison to previous star wars films, or was it just a terribly put together movie all around. Would yhe people who are not die-hard fans be able to enjoy the movie or no?

This is a message board for all people's opinions. Not an echo chamber reserved only for positive thoughts that you agree with. Bitch.

Very high. What they “saved” by not marketing this all spring they used to inflate presales to save face with the 1 billion dollar Star Wars franchise. Create a false buzz etc. Smart move, but obvious.
I knew you people loved insane conspiracy theories but LOL
The mental barriers you cross to try to justify people liking Star Wars is insane

I'm holding out till I see audience reviews.

TLJ was terrible.
But, like my mother used to say, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
