50% of businesses don't last 5 years. That included professional sole proprietorships, so it's literally a coin flip at best.

Anybody that thinks trades are better than professional degrees is just dumb. We all know that going to school for gender studies is dumb, but if you think being a carpenter is better than being an engineer you're just plain stupid.
I know engineers that don't make anywhere near as much money as a lot of tradesmen I know and they have far less job security. I have friends with ME degrees that are doing ok now but they still net middling money and one had to move across the country to find that job. With trade work your income is directly correlated to what you put in. Sometimes it's a matter of finding a particular niche within the trade.

I can't do anything but laugh at this. Prayers sent to you.

Sorry your Limu project failed.
Renovations and small project guys are making a killing.

Do you understand the exception vs the rule? Your anecdotal evidence doesn't defeat the facts that clearly side with professionals making more money, working similar or less hours, and having better longevity.

No, he doesn't.

His simpleton brain can't comprehend because "he knows a guy," despite probably knowing a dozen or more guys that do the same thing that live in a single wide.

Evidently longshoremen is a killer job, but within particular unions you have to damn near be born into the job. Guys in Everett Wa get 4 hrs per call out and easily clear 100K
They drive right up to the pier in their gold gear and corvettes, tie up a ship and get paid for golfing

What's the truth?
Truth is you can be an engineer making 60k/year after taxes or a trim carpenter with a small crew making three times that after taxes. You can have a STEM Ph.D. and make 30K/year working slave hours or have an MBA and waiting tables. I know a guy with a 4-year degree in Accounting that decided to go to SF selection because he couldn't find a job here.

Buckeye you’ve mentioned your business many times throughout the years. You mind me asking what kind of work you’re into? I’ve always been curious
We do commercial data cabling and data center infrastructure work. We also do some other types of commercial cabling but our bread and butter is the data center and office build cabling.

Only 10% of people that report any income make over 100k yet every tradesman does. Funny how that works.

Absolutely not. Many parts of the country pay is low, and like anything you work your way up
However there are more mine workers, fishermen and construction workers making over 100k locally that young professionals.

Oh I do, your problem is a narrow-minded one versus mine that has a much broader scope and an understanding that you will probably never have. You are the type of person that habitually downvotes Mike Rowe...

now you're just trolling. Only way he's making that is if he's not paying any taxes and also is lying about his income.
Enjoy being a stooped over 60 year old with bad knees.

Dude this is a fact you can look it up. You are literally arguing against facts.

So because that theoritcaly happens where you live (which is also a complete outlier to the rest of the country), that's what's going on everywhere? That may be as stupid as arguing against a fact.

If you’re good at your trade and you understand how to manage your business finances and communicate well the sky is the limit. Where most tradesman (contractors) fail is managing money properly and failing to communicate with customers. This is also true in other businesses but contractors seem to be particularly adept at failing these two basic principles. They’re robbing Peter to pay Paul and they hide their heads in the sand when it comes to communicating with client especially when there is bad news to communicate.

So to plays devils advocate, you could also be a solo carpaenter making 40k or an engineer with a small team of EIs (who each make 40k after taxes) and you pull easy 6 figures.

Same can be said here.

I think trades are fine, and they are sure as hell better than being a fry cook. You can make a decent living working a trade, but to argue it's better than being a professional is just dilusional. If you need that to have self worth, whatever.

You really don’t think a top notch trim carpenter running his own business and crew could make $180k a year.

Yeah, no shite, but they aren't. If it was easy then everybody would make 400k like these dumbasses claim they do.
