Agreed. It's only legislation that prohibits 18-20 year olds from purchasing firearms that can be reasonably challenged.

Yep, and couple it with an insurance claim.

Dicks: "Inventory was destroyed and lost by a natural disaster."

Insurance Adjuster: "What natural disaster, sir?"

Dick's: "Political climate change"

That's going to be a nice tax write off for them for FY2018, may even counterbalance the stock price drop from the negative press.

Doesn't work that way. Destroying inventory because you can't or won't sell the items is not a write-off.

Bottom line earning will take the hit of loss inventory, transportation costs, destruction fee, and so on.

Would have been easier just to sell the inventory to another vendor.

To about half the country, this is positive press.

So their shares are not down 50% over the last 12 months?

frick if I know... but in the article it said "But the company’s stock price has remained relatively unchanged since February" so if they are it has nothing to do with this decision.

It’s not a government controlled entity so in this context, it is a private business.

Not really by being an SEC refgistrant they have a duty to investors. They can't be negligent, and destroying inventory that goes directly down to equity and affects shareholders could be seen as that by some.

Baws shop at Dicks. This is a very anti-baw move. Not smart

They are getting sued for this, and they are going to lose.

How?

It's not discriminatory. 18-21 year olds aren't a protected class.

And? It's flat since their announcement to ban the sale of "assault-style" weapons. Are you trying to suggest their terrible 2017 is because of Parkland?

In around 19 states, they are in public accommodations like retail stores. I don't agree with those laws in the first place, because businesses should be able to deny who they want to sell anything to. But this is the left's snake they released that's coming out to bite them.

I get what they are going for, obviously destroying a frick load of expensive product is a PR play. It just doesn't make sense why a sporting/outdoors store feels the need to impress the anti trump crowds. It's not like they were hurting for business that would cater to that side

I know age discrimination is a thing, but I though it was like 50+ or something.
