Nothing like watching fixed races.
I’ve also got a bit our a sour taste in my mouth because most of the horses ending up in “kill pens” (not really, no license to ship to slaughter but horrible conditions) are coming out of delta and evd depending on the season. We are trying to help, but it’s an uphill battle.
I should say most of the thoroughbreds, not horses

You poor soul.
Put it this way. There's now a sushi place in Opelousas and some of my family has been so in love that they mention it every time I see them and post about it so over Facebook.
There isn't shite to do unless there is an event going on at the Yambilee building or Evangeline Downs. The only one I ever go to the Yambilee Building is the beef cook-off because them baws can cook.

Bet all the long shots! The jockey race is usually the sixth or seventh race.

How did I never hear about this?
quote:
On January 11, 1990, Jockey Sylvester Carmouche rode a 5-year-old named Landing Officer through a thick fog to a twenty-four length win. Landing Officer had gone off at 23-1 odds.[1] After the race it was determined that Carmouche had hid Landing Officer in the fog as the other eight horses in the race circled the track and the jockey was subsequently charged with felony theft by fraud.[2] Carmouche was convicted of the charges on March 14, 1990[3] and he was subsequently banned for ten years from state tracks by the Louisiana Racing Commission[4] but the ban lasted just eight years.[5] Aaron Kuriloff writing for ESPN put Sylvester Carmouche 11th of the top 25 cheats, frauds and scams perpetrated in sports around the globe.

That was at delta
I was trying to find an obvious one I’ve seen but I can’t. The favorite was so much better despite his rider’s best efforts that he was still closing to hit the board so his rider dropped both irons
Not obvious at all

It’s good. But I think Chicken King takes the prize.

My dad is from there
Crawfish Etouffee at Palace Cafe
Fried Catfish Dinner at Soileau’s
Brown Derby ice cream at Dairy Queen
Hamburgers from Joe’s Sandwich Shop in a greasy white paper bag
All part of my childhood. My family there are all dead and gone and I haven’t been there in ten years

Whenever you're leaving Opelousas, head out to Port Barre and grab you some jalapeno sausage and cheese bread at Bourques's.

Is the Palace Cafe downtown still a good place to eat?

I haven't ate there in years and I live maybe 7-8 miles away. Enjoyed their burgers.

I went to Opelousas to contest a speeding ticket in court many years ago, and ate at the Palace Cafe afterward. Want to say I had crawfish etouffe like supa and it was good.

Mama's also doesn't have any seasoning.
Mama's is legit. Don't the Targil (seasoning) people own it?

Yep, it’s all in the family: AC Bellard started Mama’s FC 4 decades ago and his daughters & grandchildren currently run both locations. They sold the Lafayette store. AC’s brother Ted owns Targil and another brother Tim owns Bellard’s Poultry. One thing about the Bellard’s, they employ family at their businesses: brothers, sisters, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc...
