Why? Maneiri said himself the only reason Broussard is starting over Hughes was just based off of experience. He said Hughes would get some starts at 2B as the year went on. It's not unreasonable to think Hughes could start over Broussard. Nothing against Broussard at all.

Mainieri says repeatedly that Hughes can’t hit.

Broussard surprised him that he is such a gamer and performs so much better in games than practice.

IMO Smith was pressing too much at SS. Hughes has been natural there. I really thought Smith would shine, but maybe the spotlight was a little too much right off the bat.
