You know there are states north of California, right?

Yep, The new opiod crisis has affected every class harshly. It's not just the poor folk anymore.

Legality has never been a good deterrent for drugs. Educate people on the harmful effects, and from there its simple self responsibility
Makes you realize the people who would suffer most are not the users or potential user, but the ones who benefit mosy from the steady cashflow produced from arrests, seizures, bonds, litigation, incarceration, prison consulting, etc.
Thats a lot of mouths to feed.

The biggest issues with drug use is the associated crimes for people to afford their habit. I really don't care if someone ODs. Cheaper, cleaner drugs would certainly help some of the issues society deals with.

Lol....you don't think addicts would still commit crimes to get cash if drugs were legal?

No, but if I'm a heroin addict I know where I'm moving to (whether legally or not)

Probably a lot fewer if their fix was less expensive. Simple economics.

Considering they still commit crimes when drugs are still illegal, I dont see the point.

Decriminalization is not the same as legalization
There's precedent for this policy in Portugal, and Glenn Greenwald did a paper for Cato showing the effects were largely neutral to positive

No they don't.

Why the frick do you care what other people do in their own countries? It's no one else's business.
Just like a nosey fricking liberal trying to tell other people what to do.

Normally I’d say yes but these people are dangerous to normal people. People on hardcore drugs will do some dangerous shite. And drug addicts that are trying to get their fix are much more violent than the average person

If this happens I expect to see a marked increase in tourism to Canada. What I am interested most in seeing is the long-term effects (say 10-20 years down the road) of full legalization.
1. I am willing to bet that it will be similar to what happened when alcohol and gambling were legalized. Usage rates will go up, but addiction will go down. If drugs were legal there would be more money available for treatment programs, and more importantly the use will be out in the open so more people will notice that someone is using drugs too much and hopefully intervene before it is too late.
2. Can you imagine the economic benefit to cities like New Orleans, Miami, Las Vegas, and Panama City if all drugs were legal.

This seems like a distinction without a difference. If something is decriminalized, is it not therefore "legal"?

True but it is the first step towards legalization.

Not really a smart idea for a country with provincially funded universal health care.
