Mount and Blade: Warband for console

So i bought this game, after noticing it on sale and like it, as far as fighting mechanics, probably one of the best. Even with it as old as it is. Wish they moved their other add ons/games to console(fire and ice, etc)
But, i've been trying to play as a neutral, and kill bandits and win tourneys. But, the bandits just get faster, even though my army is all mounted horsemen. And i end up not being able to get fights and my guys arent leveling up, i am, mainly from tourneys.
Do i have to pick a group to attack, so my men dont get bored, and i can loot and pillage for even more $$$$???

Bandits aren't gonna be enough long term. Take over a smaller kingdom that doesn't have many allies or maybe go fight for someone as their vassel if you're not built up enough for that yet. What kind of horseman are you using? Some of them aren't that great. Swadians (spelling might be off?) have op horseman if you're looking to dominate everyone.

34 of them are mercenary calvary, with more being leveled to that rank.
I'm looking at the Nords, who seem to be losing cities and ground.
Guess i should go to nearest kingdom and be a hired mercenary, or just slowly wipe out nords, then tale their castles?
I had a castle in last game, but filling it with an army and having my own was brutal, i went from 250K to under 100K quickly. was costing me close to 8-10k every pay dealio.

The key with having your own castle is to limit your army size to just what you need. Mercenaries are more expensive than regular units and should not be kept in your garrison unless you just have surplus income or really can't get any other troops. Nords have the best infantry in the game with their huscarls that can also carry throwing weapons making them even more effective. Their archers are also solid. To defend your castle I'd keep a mix of archers and infantry. Don't waste expensive horses or mercs on your garrison when you're just starting out. I like to go heavy on the archers.
I would go work for a king somewhere (probably the guy killing the nords because they're about to have some free land) and become a vassel until they give you some land of your own. That way you won't have to worry about the size of your garrison as much because the rest of the kingdom will defend you. It's not my favorite way of playing the game but it's probably an easier way of starting out than trying to start your own kingdom immediately.

Well, did you put your skills in the right category to move faster on the map?
And yes, bandits will soon not be worth your time. The only place they become a real threat is around Rivercheg and even then, you’ll never really have battles more than 100 as most stacks are around 40 or so.

This thread made me install M&B Warband last night. Will probably start it some time this weekk. Game looks dated, but will give it a shot.

little faster, and i've been beating down the bandits around rivercheg area, in between tourneys. No kingdom has given any ground, even the Nords are holding onto everything.
money goes quick, when you have horsemen as ur group, but they run over anything in their way. i can barely get a kill, they just swarm and kill. they are like a herd of bull sharks.

That’s odd. I’ve played before where the Vagiars have wrecked shoo pretty early.

You realize there are tactics you can give your men in battle, right? You can order your men to always follow you so that you’re always first in battle.

I played the hell out this game on PC several years ago. There was a mod you could install where you could give different squads specific formations. At least I think it was a mod, maybe the mod only expanded it. It was awesome setting up the battles, having your footmen hold the center while you lead cavalry charges on the flanks and rear.

That’s not a mod. That’s the actual game

Awesome. Like I said it's been a while. Maybe the mod only added more formations or something. I might have to give this game a another go since the Steam Workshop makes mod management so easy. I've seen people play the Song of Ice and Fire mod, might do that.
