Cowboys expected to release WR Dev Bryant today, barring an unexpected last-minute change of heart, per @toddarcher and me. But the plan going into meeting that is now underway was to part ways with Bryant.

ETA It's official. Multiple sites reporting it.

Dez Bryant is done in Dallas.

The Cowboys released their longtime wide receiver on Friday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the situation.

Bryant's release comes after a highly anticipated meeting with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Friday to discuss the receiver's contract situation. The 29-year-old is due $12.5 million with a $16.5 million cap hit in 2018.

Of the eight wide receivers set to earn more than $12 million in 2018, Bryant was the only one to have averaged less than 1,000 receiving yards per season (678).

Todd Archer:

quote:

The Cowboys have released Dez Bryant after the receiver's meeting with Jerry Jones, according to a source. A source said Bryant was not offered a pay cut, while another source added that Bryant will not be designated a post-June 1 cut. The Cowboys will save $8 million against the cap this season with the move.

Statement from Jerry Jones:

smart move on dallas' part. Draft a potential young stud and have him on a rookie contract for 4-5 years giving them the opportunity spend money on defense specifically.

I loved Dez but there's no way you can justify paying him this money with how he's fallen off the past 3 years.

Mever inpressed me much. Had a couple good seasons early in his career whem he had a top qb and had high volume targets. Physical freak but never developed the finer parts of his game and always has drop problems in big moments it seems like. Good riddance

I'm thinking he stays within the division and the Redskins are calling him now.

Rap is reporting it's official.

But it's Rap.

Also, Shea just tweeted this:

quote:

The Cowboys reportedly met with #LSU WR DJ Chark for a private workout on Wednesday. Seems like they are now another team who could be looking to draft him.

What if he links up in Cleveland? Gordon and Bryant on the perimeter with Juice and Coleman in the slot. Then draft Josh Allen or whoever they like at QB to backup T-Mobile

He'll file a claim under the ADA on account of being retarded. You can't just fire retarded people and get away with it.
