500K is almost certainly too much, but he's a full time assistant at a D1 P5 school. You're talking about that job like he's the equipment manager at a Division 3 school. It's a pretty good gig with opportunities for upward mobility.

I might just be naive to special teams coaches. Especially at horrible football schools.

Alabama's special teams coach has zero opportunities for upward mobility, id have to assume.
