Outdoor Fan Recommendations

We will be putting up an aluminum awning and I am starting to look at outdoor fans.
We won’t have the headspace for a ceiling fan, so I was looking for other options.
If possible I’d like to find something that isn’t extremely loud, has good output, will have a decent lifespan and could possibly be mounted.
Patio will be 16x30, typical aluminum awning.
What does the OB have?

I’ve seen wall mounted oscillating fans on outdoor areas at restaurants. Seems like a good option for your area. Some even have remote controls.

I like the Lasko squirrel cage fans. They move way more air than traditional fans and are much quieter. I have a couple, and a number of folks who have experienced them went and bought their own.

I have a 12x20 patio with the same issue of low head room as well. I put a surface mount receptacle in the corner and put an air king ceiling mount fan next to it. On low it moves plenty of air for the whole patio and isn’t too loud but you know it’s on. However, I think the more air you’re moving the more noise you may have.

These look nice, still concerned about head space. What height is your roof?
I know the Lasko Squirrel cages work well but I’m not sure my wife will like they look.
Just from the responses so far I’m leaning towards the air king, but I may grab one of all of these and at least see how they work.

I was in a similar position a year ago, and I decided to go the route of a drum fan. I also wanted something for my shop so it serves a dual purpose. Quiet, moves a lot of air, and movable. Just be careful if you decide to go this route as there are things to consider when deciding a model.

Agree with being careful.
I have big drum fan from Lowe’s - it makes noise like it means business, but I think a fart from my 4-yr old moves more air than that fan does.
It’s an option but I’d really like something mounted so it’s out of the way.

With drum fans you'd want something belt driven with a fully enclosed motor. Something you won't find at the big box stores.

That thing looks like a beast. How are the noise levels?

check one out at Sunbelt Lighting on Wooddale Blvd if you are in BR. They're not silent.

Iliving wall mounts. Cheap, quiet, and last forever!

I’m bumping this thread because I’m looking for a fan also.. I’ve built box fans in the past but I can’t seem to find the parts I’m looking for. I used to take the old ‘house fans’ that were mounted in the eves of houses.. I’d completely take apart and clean the motor (and paint it), get a new belt, and enclose it in some nice wood with new electrical hookups
I’m struggling to find the old fans, and would like something on the ground to circulate air on a patio that’s 13x25 (a decent sized rectangle). Home Depot and Lowe’s websites don’t have shite as far as outdoor fans
Like everyone else, I’m looking for a fan that moves a lot of air quietly

If quiet is what you want then get a pair of ones like these. There are several different brands that make them. Think you can find them on EBay for under $30.00 each. Search for “floor fan”.
